My interest is working with people suffering with developmental trauma, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, coping with daily life stress and parenting and family issues.
"The pain is there; when you close one door on it, it knocks to come in somewhere else..." (Dr. Irvin D. Yalom). The process of psychotherapy is uncovering the pain, either developmental, situation specific or just existential, and working through it within the bounds of a trusting, accepting and empathetic therapeutic relationship. Throughout the process, I will help you uncover and become comfortable with your authentic self, while bringing into the consciousness some of the themes and motives that have unconsciously ruled your life and became a part of who you are.

It would be my honor to help you and your child reconnect and redefine your parent -child relationship.
Are you having difficulties getting out of the house with your toddler or preschooler as they have a meltdown over putting their shoes on? Have you ever felt the eyes of strangers watching you as you manage your child’s anger outbursts in the grocery store? Do you ever feel consumed by guilt, worry, or frustration related to raising your child? These challenges can feel debilitating, embarrassing even, but things can get better with the right kind of supports in place.

Or perhaps you desperately want to be a good parent , but it seems like everything you have tried hasn't worked. If this is you, I would be honored to come alongside you and offer my assistance. It takes wisdom to recognize when a problem exists and courage to do something about it.

Over time, I have worked with many amazing people like you who are looking to overcome barriers to their creative pursuits and lifestyles. Some may be seeking a safe place to sit and be listened to without judgment about deeper personal matters such as trauma, depression, anxiety, or abuse. While others are interested in learning to better navigate the ever-complex world of love, dating, and relationships that even the best of us need a little help with sometimes. Above all, I believe the desire for hope and to grow and change is what drives us best.

When life hasn't turned out the way you hoped, it's difficult to know where to go or how to make change. The decision to seek help can be a difficult process. Many times, it's much easier to sweep your struggles under the rug and put your personal happiness on the backburner. It will be my privilege and joy to work with you in developing a life path that will bring you happiness and joy. It will be my focus to help you identify the specific issues that you're struggling with, where they come from, and how to best change unhealthy patterns of living to improve your quality of life.

This challenging time may be creating disruption in your life as well as awakening awareness of problematic patterns and pain from the past. So often our frustrations and emotional pain are rooted in parts of ourselves of which we are largely unaware. You may feel stuck in patterns of bad relationships, loss of identity, or lacking meaning in life, even when you know you want to break free. You may be defined by your job or family role, but what else are you? What is missing in your life from not knowing all that you really are?

Working with a high performing individual, like yourself, is my speciality. The Go-Getter with goals, determination to accomplish and the fire to achieve. You, as the high performer, may have arrived at a place that in order to remain in the success flow it requires more energy to sustain. Are you experiencing an increase of being reactive in place of proactive? Are you second guessing your capabilities and skills? Let's work together on bringing you in a harmonious state of mind by discovering the innate obstacles that are no longer serving you and begin to cultivate, strengthen and propel you into a growth mindset.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
