,

, phobias, trauma, childhood trauma and abuse, PTSD, performance enhancement, relationships, depression, grief, and life stress.
Welcoming new clients! My work is driven by the deeply held belief that people get better. Every person has the ability to heal, make connections, and deserves healthy relationships. While the benefits of counseling can last for years, it shouldn't take years before experiencing the benefits. By using evidence based practices, significant change can happen rather quickly, in weeks and months. I have advanced degrees and training, and am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

You want a therapist who really understands what you’re facing, and I do! I’ve dealt with betrayal,
anxiety
, family difficulties, and the pressures of being raised as a good Christian girl.
You don't want to be a burden, so you keep it all inside, but it's getting unbearable. You're the family peacekeeper and everyone relies on you, but there's part of your story you never say aloud. As a lifelong bookworm and psychotherapist, I know the power of stories, especially the ones we didn't choose: family secrets, relationship and sexual difficulties, unhelpful alcohol use, over-shopping, struggles with faith, rejection and discrimination, people-pleasing,
anxiety
, and shame. You want to learn to speak up without it costing you everyone you love. I can help you find peace in your relationships and re-write your future.

Have you looked at your life lately and thought that maybe your life hasn’t turned out the way you thought it would be? Or maybe you’ve “checked all the boxes” but you still feel numb, disconnected, anxious or depressed? Maybe you are growing your family, and no one told you becoming a mother would be so difficult. But the fact is, life can be hard. Really hard. And sometimes we need help navigating our thoughts, feelings and experiences.

I offer individual counseling to assist in working through issues of
anxiety
, depression, grief & loss counseling and navigating life's transitions.
I believe the therapy process involves forming a relationship with someone who you can share with and trust. A third party who wont judge you, or share/gossip your most intimate secrets or life struggles with others. It's nice having friends and or family to share with, but that isn't always an option, nor is it always safe. I provide my clients with an environment free from judgement where you can let your guard down, vent, share and just be you. Therapy doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, it means you're ready to grow and better understand yourself, others and hopefully life. Isn't that what we're all striving for?

We will work to help you find relief from trauma, stress, grief,
anxiety
/depression or behavior concerns.
Are you concerned about your child/teen? Is their behavior related to mental health or are the changes you are observing a normal part of development? You may be noticing behaviors such as withdrawal, sadness, irritability, loss of interest in activities they previously enjoyed. Or they may be anxious, overwhelmed, moody, unable to cope, fearful or having difficulty focusing in school. It can be hard to start the conversation with your child/teen or get them to open up? As a parent it can be overwhelming to watch kids struggle and not know how to intervene or offer support. You don't have to do it alone.

I also treat binge eating disorder, depression,
anxiety
, OCD, ASD, mood disorders, and many others.
I strive to provide an inclusive feeling in my practice where everyone’s uniqueness is embraced, explored, and celebrated. I utilize a variety of modalities including Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, and Mindfulness. After practicing for more than 20 years what I have learned is that therapy is not one size fits all, success and progress look different for each person, everybody is doing their best always no matter what, and in the end the best predictor of treatment success is the relationship we create in our work together. If we can build a trusting relationship then the journey will be successful.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
