There's a saying, "Healing is the application of love to the places inside that hurt." You have the ability to heal from the deepest of wounds and the most challenging of circumstances. I'm here to fully support you in tending to those places. We will journey into unburdening parts that have kept you stuck and scared, so you can operate more fully from your true self. This increased level of awareness can help you access your strength and intuition, eliminate negative self talk and choose a more fulfilling relationship with yourself, others and life. I offer a complimentary 15 minute meet and greet to ensure we are a good fit.

Chris Doorley, AMFT (DoorleyTherapy on the web) specializes in Anxiety, Sleep issues, Burnout, chronic Stress and ADHD. Therapy with Chris is about identifying and supporting your individual needs. His approach draws from Buddhist Psychology, awareness practices (like Gestalt), and Jungian myth-archetypes to provide support for your entire Self. In Chris's 9 years of clinical, graduate-level and pre-clinical work, he's seen that though we all share common suffering, it hits each of us uniquely. If you feel your life has begun to show you more "obstacle" than "flow", send an email or give a call— next-day intakes are available.

You might be feeling anxious, burned out, or stuck in old patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you’ve tried some talk therapy already, but things still feel frozen, disconnected, or unclear. I specialize in helping people like you reconnect with the parts of themselves that feel lost, neglected, or overwhelmed. My work centers around healing the inner child, supporting nervous system regulation, and helping you build a compassionate relationship with all the parts of yourself—even the ones that feel messy, numb, or hard to love. I offer holistic, somatic therapy rooted in parts work, psychodynamics, and spiritual presence.

My practice invites you to view the therapeutic process as an inquiry into the meanings and behaviors that are impacting your life. Together, we apply creative and somatic (body-sourced) techniques for navigating with awareness daily circumstances and relationships with others. Using a trauma-informed dialogue, we clarify and cultivate a primary relationship to your strengths. Your resilience, then, is directed with a dynamic skill set toward healthy relating and in mindful creating toward the fluid integrity you compose as your life.

As a psychotherapist, I honor the opportunity to create a safe, trusting and non-judgmental environment that motivates clients to fully engage in the therapeutic process. I assist clients with gaining an understanding of why they tend to think, feel and behave in ways that can be confusing or self-destructive. I believe gaining insight into a symptom's origin rather than the symptom itself creates space for a deeper understanding of oneself, and creates meaningful change driven by a desire for personal growth, joy and balance in their lives.

My focus is on relationships, the relationships we have with ourselves and others, and what is blocking them from feeling joy. I work with individuals and couples primarily focusing on the communication styles and how to improve upon them. I work with the hope of each relationship eventually finding different ways to cope, deepen, and advance into something different and rewarding. I feel all of our experiences in life have led to this moment. Whether the experience was a good one, or a bad one, they have informed our decisions about how to move forward.

Therapy is different for everyone but it's always done mindfully through a careful process of bringing into light those parts of ourselves that have been hidden, misunderstood or simply need to be shared in order to heal. We can use many types of resources while doing the work to ensure that the process feels safe, including EMDR which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. Most importantly it's a collaborative effort which includes your own wisdom and clear understanding. Let's work to weave together new perspectives and insights. It's my privilege to work with you as we take steps toward a higher quality of life.

For teens: Perhaps you have a hunch that something is not quite right and you’re not feeling like yourself. Maybe something happened recently that is more than you can hold, that is overwhelming, anxiety-provoking, or pushing you toward despair. Maybe there are some big decisions coming up and you want to talk it all out. Maybe you just want a weekly time to check in and ask yourself, “How am I really doing?” Whatever it is you're going through, you don’t have to “go it alone.” Think of me as a relational/emotional coach who would love to walk beside you as you navigate the ups and downs of teen life.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
