Helping clients facing grief or chronic illness is my passion. For nearly a decade, I was a hospice grief counselor providing support to individuals and families. I work with clients experiencing many kinds of losses, including death of a parent, partner, or child. The focus of my work with clients is finding meaning while coping with a life changing illness, including cancer and autoimmune disorders, or loss . I am certified in Thanatology, the study of death , dying and bereavement , through the Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC).

Sometimes life brings challenges that require us to learn and grow in unforeseen ways. These challenges can take the form of an illness in ourselves or a loved one, death , the loss of dreams held dearly, and trials that are part of living and maturing. I work collaboratively with individuals, families, and couples to help them overcome the stressful events they face.

I also work with issues related to aging, life transitions, mood disorders, and grief and loss .
It’s difficult to begin therapy. But if you're in a lot of emotional pain, it can feel like life is running you; you've lost the driver's seat. Once you reach out for support, we begin. Together, we'll explore any distorted thinking patterns you may be having and develop your strengths so that you can regain a sense of agency and equanimity. We'll focus on your core values and how you can make changes to align with them. Your precious life is worth it! I look forward to talking to you.

I specialize in couples therapy, grief work ( death / loss /trauma, end of life) and major life transitions. Additionally, as a bilingual therapist (Mandarin/English), I work with Chinese/Asian/multi-race families to address multigenerational traumas, parenting challenges and cultural differences. My work is informed not only by my trainings in psychotherapy but also by my prior careers in the intensely demanding law/finance/startups sectors which has helped me appreciate the enormous stress and complexity in the work/life dynamics facing many of my clients and their families, sometimes seemingly as a result of their very own success.

Anyone who has ever experienced trauma cannot overlook the excruciating pain and fear it instills in the body and mind. Such pain, if left unattended may morph into depression, anxiety, chronic physical pain, and profound sense of loss and continuous grief . It can mask our identity and destroy our lifestyle. We turn out to be disoriented, stuck, and confined. Our lives become foreign to us. We find ourselves witnessing its broadcast, as opposed to fully experiencing it in the moment. Hence, we turn to our defenses in the form of compensatory behaviors, such as addiction and compulsions or lose the meaning of life.

I have over 20 years of clinical experience helping kids figure out how they can feel more in control of themselves, thus helping to improve behavior, school problems, self-esteem, anger, anxiety, grief / loss / bereavement , eating disorders and communication issues.
The burning question: "Should I be concerned by my child's behavior, lack of communication, or new friends... or is this just a phase"? There are many variables as to why children/adolescents begin acting differently and sometimes this is just a natural progression in your child becoming their own individual. However, other times these are warning signs that something problematic is involved and you are correct to be concerned.

I support you seeking a relief from your grief , loss , anger, and fears, and invite you to improve your life through introspection, creative expression, and genuine human connection.
Relationships can be hard. Partners struggle with communication, conflicting parenting styles, sexual expressions... Life's challenges, hurtful fights, history of trauma or infidelity make it difficult to sustain trust and closeness. How can you create desired connections, and not lose yourself in the process? How can you be true both to self and to your partnership? I invite you to explore these questions together with empathy and curiosity, letting go of habitual judgments, self-deprecation, and shame. I work with individuals, couples, and families. Both traditional and alternative lifestyles are welcome, and no issue is a taboo.

I work with teenagers and adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief , and relationship problems.
"The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it." ~C.C. Scott. We all go through challenges in life, and at times they can seem bigger than our ability to manage. In therapy, we can work together to cultivate the life you want through reducing the grip of depression, anxiety, and stress; healing from grief , loss , past abuse or trauma; regulating your nervous system; developing effective coping skills; improving relationships and communication; and building on your personal strengths. I want to help you to engage with life more fully and to support you in pursuing what you value most

I work with individuals from young adulthood through older age, and couples have been a specialty for more than 25 years. Life events and experiences can cause stress, confusion, grief , and myriad other feelings which, when internalized, result in anxiety and depression. Whether seeing couples or individuals, I have found that a combination of insight and understanding, attention to feelings, and cognitive and behavioral change is most effective in addressing both internal and interpersonal conflicts and concerns. I work with people to resolve, heal, accept, and cope with loss , trauma, illness, family, marital and work issues, and more.

I am interested in how patterns get replicated and how to change this, and in coping with and negotiating major life transitions, involving meaning, identity, loss , and life roles.
I'm a Psychologist with an Integrative perspective, comfortable working with a variety of types of people and problems from a variety of perspectives. It is as important to be able to work towards change in the present, as it is to revisit and understand how one's developmental history may be influencing present issues or repeating patterns. I have found truths in many theoretical approaches, and as much from studies outside of Psychology as within it.

Whether you've been in therapy before, or this will be your first time; it is important to feel safe and comfortable enough to talk about things that are causing you distress. Are you experiencing life changes, decisions, challenges, trauma, illness, or disabilities? Are you looking for a way to cope with anxiety or depression?  Do you have nightmares or trouble sleeping?  Maybe you have experienced the loss of someone close to you, or a job, or a beloved pet.  Or you are just plain stressed out.  All the time. Talk can help, but so can non-verbal expressive therapies, in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
