I work with individuals from young adulthood through older age, and couples have been a specialty for more than 25 years. Life events and experiences can cause stress, confusion, grief, and myriad other feelings which, when internalized, result in anxiety and depression. Whether seeing couples or individuals, I have found that a combination of insight and understanding, attention to feelings, and cognitive and behavioral change is most effective in addressing both internal and interpersonal conflicts and concerns. I work with people to resolve, heal, accept, and cope with loss, trauma, illness,
family
, marital and work issues, and more.

I am particularly effective in working with bright and highly sensitive teens. During this pandemic, I believe that our most perceptive, sensitive adolescents are having the biggest mental health challenges with not seeing friends,
family
, and teachers on a more regular basis. I have extensive experience as a School Counselor in both private and public schools in the SF Bay Area. I also have designed and taught Social and Emotional Learning at several private schools. My ideal client is a teen facing the obstacles of anxiety, depression, learning challenges or social skills challenges at school or home.

As your journey unfolds, I welcome both your pain and your resilience, and hope to be a resource for you and your
family
.
Relationships can be hard. Partners struggle with communication, conflicting parenting styles, sexual expressions... Life's challenges, hurtful fights, history of trauma or infidelity make it difficult to sustain trust and closeness. How can you create desired connections, and not lose yourself in the process? How can you be true both to self and to your partnership? I invite you to explore these questions together with empathy and curiosity, letting go of habitual judgments, self-deprecation, and shame. I work with individuals, couples, and families. Both traditional and alternative lifestyles are welcome, and no issue is a taboo.

I work with a wide range of clients. Those confronting transitions, relationships problems, career concerns, addictions, student concerns and other challenges. Depression, anxiety, stress or addictive behaviors are usually the first step in a journey to self-discovery. I create a nurturing, supportive and warm space for my clients to examine their relationships, the impacts of their
family
environments, thought patterns and dreams. I help my clients understand concessions they may have been made in their original
family
enabled adaptation, but may later interfere with their fulfillment. Together we create new stories with happier endings.

I specialize in problems of Chemical Dependency and Recovery, Learning Disabilities, Crisis, Depression, Domestic Violence, Employment, Life Transitions, Women's Issues,
Family
Counseling, Spiritual Crisis, Couples Counseling and Pre-Marital Counseling.
Good therapy involves the right match. I also provide a free 30 minute (in person) question and answer session (not counseling). This allows you to understand what your therapy process will look like. If we decide to work together, you will be involved in a very action oriented therapy. Our work will encourage you to practice your new skills during the week. I try to use approaches that you find helpful like: writing in a journal, reading books, support groups, and/or your spiritual practices, that may help while you are in therapy. Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
