I see individuals,
couples
, families and groups.
I work with a wide range of clients. Those confronting transitions, relationships problems, career concerns, addictions, student concerns and other challenges. Depression, anxiety, stress or addictive behaviors are usually the first step in a journey to self-discovery. I create a nurturing, supportive and warm space for my clients to examine their relationships, the impacts of their family environments, thought patterns and dreams. I help my clients understand concessions they may have been made in their original family enabled adaptation, but may later interfere with their fulfillment. Together we create new stories with happier endings.

I provide brief and long-term sex therapy for individuals and
couples
using an integrative approach.
Are you struggling with intimacy or sexual concerns and not sure how to improve the situation? Sex therapy is a form of therapy intended to help individuals and
couples
resolve sexual difficulties, such as performance anxiety or
relationship
problems. It’s normal for clients to feel anxious when seeing a sex therapist, especially for the first time. Many people have trouble talking about sex at all, so discussing it with me as a stranger may feel awkward. I provide a safe space in exploring your sexual concerns, reducing the pain, and reaching desirable goals. I am one of the few Asian American AASECT certified therapists across US.

I work with individuals from young adulthood through older age, and
couples
have been a specialty for more than 25 years. Life events and experiences can cause stress, confusion, grief, and myriad other feelings which, when internalized, result in anxiety and depression. Whether seeing
couples
or individuals, I have found that a combination of insight and understanding, attention to feelings, and cognitive and behavioral change is most effective in addressing both internal and interpersonal conflicts and concerns. I work with people to resolve, heal, accept, and cope with loss, trauma, illness, family, marital and work issues, and more.

As stressors of everyday living expand,
relationship
conflicts, symptoms of depression, and issues related to past or present traumas may arise.
Therapy offers an opportunity to move your life in more desired directions and to help you live with greater personal satisfaction and engagement. My therapeutic approach focuses on helping you more deeply understand possible causes of emotional distress. We work together to develop insights and strategies necessary for managing and potentially resolving both inner conflict as well as interpersonal dynamics. I tailor the type of therapy provided to suit your needs. Our work generally involves developing psychological perspectives necessary to reduce symptoms, manage stressors, and deepen and enrich your psychological life.

You're too old to not have relationships figured out. But lately, you've started to wonder if it's just normal to feel invisible, if it's even possible for you to have a
relationship
that makes you want to smile. When you show up as yourself the way the latest article tells you to, all you hear is that you're too much and nothing changes. Now you just find yourself shutting down, keeping as out of the way as possible. You’re tired of feeling scared that your
partner
will leave. Or even worse, that she'll stay and you’ll be stuck feeling this way forever. Breathing deeply and stretching into your skin feels impossible.

problems.
"The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it." ~C.C. Scott. We all go through challenges in life, and at times they can seem bigger than our ability to manage. In therapy, we can work together to cultivate the life you want through reducing the grip of depression, anxiety, and stress; healing from grief, loss, past abuse or trauma; regulating your nervous system; developing effective coping skills; improving relationships and communication; and building on your personal strengths. I want to help you to engage with life more fully and to support you in pursuing what you value most

I specialize in problems of Chemical Dependency and Recovery, Learning Disabilities, Crisis, Depression, Domestic Violence, Employment, Life Transitions, Women's Issues, Family Counseling, Spiritual Crisis,
Couples Counseling
and Pre-Marital Counseling.
Good therapy involves the right match. I also provide a free 30 minute (in person) question and answer session (not counseling). This allows you to understand what your therapy process will look like. If we decide to work together, you will be involved in a very action oriented therapy. Our work will encourage you to practice your new skills during the week. I try to use approaches that you find helpful like: writing in a journal, reading books, support groups, and/or your spiritual practices, that may help while you are in therapy. I pride myself on providing an affirming, nonjudgmental space, allowing us to get to know one another, build an authentic therapeutic
relationship
, identify your specific needs, and make progress towards your goals.
Stressed? Overwhelmed? Exhausted? Sad? This is your mind's way of letting you know that something is not working. So often we find ourselves pushing through difficulties without taking time to understand or heal from them. Through therapy, I help folks slow down and process where they are at and what they have been through. Together we identify negative thought patterns and behaviors that are keeping you stuck. We process current and past experiences and move through avoidance. This allows you to gain new insights, function at higher levels and release stressors rather than ignoring them.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
