I am particularly effective in working with bright and highly sensitive teens. During this pandemic, I believe that our most perceptive, sensitive adolescents are having the biggest mental health challenges with not seeing friends, family, and teachers on a more regular basis. I have extensive experience as a School Counselor in both private and public schools in the SF Bay Area. I also have designed and taught Social and Emotional Learning at several private schools. My ideal client is a
teen
facing the obstacles of anxiety, depression, learning challenges or social skills challenges at school or home.

The emotional right brain is dominant in all forms of psychotherapy which is especially true in child and
adolescent
therapies.
Whether you've been in therapy before, or this will be your first time; it is important to feel safe and comfortable enough to talk about things that are causing you distress. Are you experiencing life changes, decisions, challenges, trauma, illness, or disabilities? Are you looking for a way to cope with anxiety or depression? Do you have nightmares or trouble sleeping? Maybe you have experienced the loss of someone close to you, or a job, or a beloved pet. Or you are just plain stressed out. All the time. Talk can help, but so can non-verbal expressive therapies, in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment.

My clients include
adolescent
girls, adult men and women, and couples and families.
It is my firm belief that people do their best with the situations life hands them. My goal as a therapist is to help people work through their stuck places, let go of old behaviors that helped them survive in the past but are no longer useful, and learn new behaviors that will contribute to greater enjoyment and connection in their lives. I see myself as an active guide in this process, and I am enriched by seeing people learn to accept themselves and others, and thus live the fullest and most satisfying life possible.

My more niche specialties include premarital and marital therapy with couples experiencing communication impasse, uncoupling, and rekindling a relationship; therapy with founders, tech execs, and co-founder therapy;
teen
and young adult psychology; South Asian issues; trichotillomania; and ERP.
As life unfolds, it often presents challenges that require us to adjust and adapt. Good therapy facilitates a clearer understanding of obstacles and how to overcome them to create the life we want. My approach is empathic and intellectually curious and collaborative, always keeping your goals in mind. I have learned that the questions I ask are more important than the advice I give. My clients describe me as warm, active, nonjudgmental, direct, and a gifted listener. I am also highly attuned to teens, and have developed strong relationships with even the most "difficult to reach" kids.

Then, with the many tools in my toolbox, I will help you make those changes. If you are dealing with anxiety, trauma or relationship issues, contact me. I will answer any questions you may have. Please note: I am only doing teletherapy at this time and for the foreseeable future.

I'm a Psychologist with an Integrative perspective, comfortable working with a variety of types of people and problems from a variety of perspectives. It is as important to be able to work towards change in the present, as it is to revisit and understand how one's developmental history may be influencing present issues or repeating patterns. I have found truths in many theoretical approaches, and as much from studies outside of Psychology as within it.

Life is a journey full of ups and downs. It doesn't come with a roadmap, and at times we all find ourselves in difficult situations. As your therapist, I will guide you and support you through these rough times by illuminating the path to healing and wholeness. In the face of life's challenges, our tendency is to cope, adapt and get by. Unfortunately some of these coping mechanisms are outdated and no longer serve us, so we go about life just "getting by". Rather than merely "surviving" you could be thriving.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
