With over 20 years of experience, I specialize in supporting those struggling with substance use disorders (including other types of compulsive behaviors such as sex, porn, and internet addiction), by providing compassionate and evidence-based treatment tailored to each person's unique journey.
In addition to working directly with individuals facing addiction, I recognize the critical role that families and friends play in the recovery process. I offer guidance and support to loved ones, helping them with the complexities of addiction and equipping them with the tools necessary to foster a supportive environment for their recovering loved ones

I am a Certified Child and Adult Jungian Analyst. I am devoted to helping facilitate the development of a conscious balance in your life. Loss, trauma, dysfunctional relationships, addiction, creative blocks and much more can keep you stuck and stall development. I work with adult clients to help them mine the unconscious and reveal the connection between this material and behaviors and patterns that obstruct vitality. This starts with the establishment of a sound trusting therapeutic relationship. From this foundation, I support and guide you in uncovering and recovering your own resources and strengths.

If you’ve lost your sense of self and feel buried under harsh, self-critical thoughts, this could be the first step toward finding your way back. Do you ever find yourself thinking, “Why can’t I just be happy?” If so, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to stay stuck. Many of us were never taught how to be kind to ourselves—especially during moments of struggle. While self-criticism can feel like a form of motivation, it often leads to shame, isolation, and burnout. Mindful self-compassion isn’t about “letting yourself off the hook”—it’s about meeting your experience with courage, honesty, and care.

I support families, couples, and individuals. Whatever the problem, challenge, trauma or pain, the power to change exists within you and your family. I believe that an effective therapist's job is to support a "shift," not to create it for you. Together, we can make progress toward your goals and desires. I am also trained and certified in hypnotherapy. Since 2020 I have offered Online services, walking and beach sessions which work great with certain personalities, especially children and teenagers. I’m also licensed in the state Oregon and provide online services for people residing in that state.

Have you often thought about "going to therapy" but can't quite dial a therapist's number? It can be scary to make that first call but also uplifting and perhaps it will give you a sense of hope.

Colleen Perry, M.F.T., is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California (MFC38937).Most people come to see a therapist because they are in emotional pain, physical pain, or both, as one often creates the other. I understand how vulnerable this can make you feel, so I am committed to giving my full attention and respect to the unique experience of each client. It is for this reason that I maintain a small “boutique” practice, where I listen to what you want for your life and together we create a course of treatment that meets your goals and needs.

Today is a good day to heal and transform. Jennifer Stone works from a mindfulness meditation lens with compassion for all that is brought to the session. She holds body sensations, thoughts, emotions and all material with tenderness that can create a safe, accepting container for healing. You will learn to "get out of your head", and trust your body, respond to stress in healthy ways, and grow self-love and confidence. She uses a combination of tools from a trauma informed lens in psychotherapy sessions, including mindfulness meditation, IFS, CBT, visualization, breath practices, and somatic inquiry to get to root of the problem.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
