The heart of my practice centers around helping you increase self-acceptance, access inner strength, enhance emotion regulation skills, alter unhelpful behavior patterns, clarify what matters most in your life and act toward that end. Even if the events in your life don't change, your perspective on them and reaction to them can. Common areas of focus include relationship issues, depression, anxiety, career/life transitions, child/ adolescent issues, divorce, parenting, assertiveness training/setting boundaries, intimacy/changing unhealthy relationship patterns.

I enjoyed very much my post licensure work at a family institute. Whether working with a child, an adolescent , an adult, a dyad or the whole family, I will initially focus on the person suffering the most. Based on the presenting symptom, I may do brief crisis intervention to stabilize a situation until an individual's underlying issue has been crystallized. The life issue causing depression, anxiety, and fears will then be addressed in more depth. My approach is to assist people in their own healing, maximizing on their own strengths and resources.

Are you feeling stuck, lost, overwhelmed, scared, in pain, in conflict? Perhaps you're a couple who've lost your connection, you're arguing all the time, or feeling betrayed or let down. I have helped many couples find the love, trust, respect and affection they used to share, and build a stronger, healthier foundation on which to continue growing. Perhaps you're an individual in crisis, or in a life transition, or lonely, depressed, anxious, or desperate for change. Together we will uncover your inner strength, recalibrate your direction, and open doors to a rewarding future. Maybe you have a child or teen in need of support.

Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, marital issues, parenting concerns, or anything else--you should know that there is a better way to manage your life. Supporting mothers throughout the stages of motherhood is something I hold close to my heart. I am also extremely passionate about my work with teen girls, especially those who struggle with academic pressures. I facilitate a high school girls' group each week that focuses on friendships, self-esteem, self-care, and coping skills for high school.

As a senior level entertainment industry executive, I've worked with established and rising artists, creatives and creative executives for over 25 years. As a therapist today, I continue to work with those same individuals: screenwriters, musicians, actors, composers, singers, producers, directors, designers, executives and more. The lives of most creatives aren't consistent: they are filled with infrequent highs (awards, press, etc.) and all-too-frequent lows. It’s during these quieter times that we can be unwittingly highjacked by anxiety, depression, substance use, imposter syndrome, creative dry spells and more.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
