Whether you are a teenager or an adult, existential moments present themselves. Sometimes it takes the help of someone compassionate, yet straightforward, who is outside of the problem to help you find solutions. There is not always a clear cut answer to life's complex problems, but together we can prioritize and sort them out in order to achieve our goals. I work with both adolescents and adults in areas such as: trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse.

I'm a board-certified MD with a passion for chronic pain rehab, as well as diagnosis and treatment of other psychophysiologic conditions. This work is based around a cutting-edge paradigm which draws on the role of the brain and nervous system in regulating the state of the body. Whether you have chronic pain or other medically unexplained symptoms, there is hope for recovery. The felt sense of threat vs safety underlies changes in the nervous system, from which chronic pain, migraines, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, long COVID and many other syndromes can arise, perpetuated by heightened sensitivity and distorted perception.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, lost, or confused? Ever been stuck and don’t know why? Felt isolated in your struggles? Have you experienced the pain of betrayal or the frustration of not being supported? If any of these resonate with you, know you're not alone. I get it. Been there. The pain, the guilt, the sense of failure.

My practice focuses on helping individuals, couples, and families who are suffering from emotional or physical pain or the aftereffects of trauma. We help them resolve the traumatic experience, as well as its consequences (e.g. physical pain, stress, disability, depression, anxiety, insomnia, medication dependence, isolation, etc.) Although many of our patients have not responded well to prior therapies, we've had outstanding success in helping them move from feeling a severe loss to finding a new and positive beginning. We love to work with people who are ready to change and eager to learn how to do it.

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist that takes an Integrative approach. I combine Evidence-based modalities with CAMs, such as Brainspotting and Havening. I treat substance use issues, PTSD, anxiety, mood disorders and interpersonal challenges. I also offer professional coaching. In today's world, people from all walks of life struggle with the very real issues that come with just being human. Stress, anxiety, depression and grief are everyday experiences for many. How we deal with them often determines our capacity for balance, resilience and happiness. Therapy can be an effective tool for identifying and resolving such issues.

Many of us turn to therapy when life's challenges leave us unsure how to care for ourselves or move forward in meaningful ways. Painful experiences often shape our ability to meet our own needs. It can be so hard to know how to cope when we become tangled in one of life’s knots. Repeating relational patterns, withdrawing from loved ones, overworking, or struggling with unhelpful coping strategies can create an endless cycle of difficulty in our lives that complicates our relationship with other and ourselves. No matter where you find yourself today, I hope you know that things can get better.

Sports Performance Therapists
How does sports psychology work?
Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?
The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?
Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?
Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
