I'm a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic therapist, attachment-based , and person-centered.
I work with WOMEN and ATHLETEs who are struggling with overwhelming ANXIETY. Sometimes this includes issues with relationships, spirituality, trauma and PTSD, self esteem, codependency, life transitions, eating issues, sports performance, and grief. You may be feeling not good enough, stuck in a toxic relationship, uncomfortable asking for help, scared of conflict, intimidated, taken advantage of. You can achieve, tough it out, and make other people happy, but aren’t really happy yourself.

I choose to see life's challenges as invitations to know ourselves more honestly, and to accept ourselves as we are. I believe that when individuals are self-aware they experience life as more meaningful and challenges as less distressing. I help individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions and relationship issues, to embrace their wholeness and strengthen inner resources not yet recognized. From this place of knowing and alternate or adjusted perspective, individuals develop compassion for self and other, gain confidence in relationships, and feel more assured in their ability to address the challenges life presents.

I see the choice to begin therapy as an act of self-empowerment. Whether you need support for a difficult life transition, notice ingrained patterns that you want to shift, or seek personal or spiritual growth, initiating therapy paves the way for change. I believe that we are inherently relational beings and that sharing our whole selves within the support of a trusting relationship is an important component of healing. From this place of truth, we can work together to make meaning of your challenges and leverage them into opportunities for growth and change.

I believe everyone deserves some time to sit down with a strong listener and/or problem solver about their life. The feedback that I receive is, that I empathize & mirror the key issues quickly and help you brainstorm. I then help you get at "reframing" the negative situations and help you motivate and prioritize what is needed to do to actually change. I can work well with mood issues, chaos, panic, addictions and all relationship issues. Every session you should walk away with substantial suggestions to help in different areas. I also work with work career issues, parenting, and women with breast cancer.

Are you at a place in your life where you need some support and guidance to move forward? It may feel like you’ve done all you can, and you’re not sure what to do next. It may even feel like past patterns, keep repeating themselves. You’re not alone. Change is hard, and there are many reasons why our past and they ways we’ve learned to relate in the world keep giving us the same results. The good news is that we can always learn new ways of being and relating, ways to move forward, find new meaning and continue to learn and grow. I hope that you will take this next step on your path of healing.

Life is filled with transitions, changes, growth, and honestly sometimes, even regressions. But that is okay. And even better, you do NOT have to go it alone. Let me walk through the darkness with you and we can find the way out together. Let me help you discover your strengths. Let me guide you getting your life back on track. Therapy does not have to be scary or intimidating. Therapy does not require prior experience. Therapy also does not have to be all talk about feelings for an hour. We can draw, we can take a walk, we can cry, we can laugh, we can even meet virtually! Therapy with me will be about you and your needs.

Be able and confident to use real tools helping to bring ease in your life and get your world on track. There is help for suffering, PTSD, anxiety, etc. that does not always involve having to trench up the past, but rather, can work right now to bring relief. Are you hurting or stuck? Often our past laid down unconscious survival mechanisms that are at work today that are no longer useful. We can work together to discover these and then insert a new and more useful tool that can allow more ease in your world. I help you identify current needs are so that these can be supported. I specialize in adult adoptees (I am one myself).

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
