In our current challenging times, many of us find ourselves at a breaking point. Anxiety, depression, apathy, exhaustion are pushing us to reach out for support and care. I offer a safe space to face these stressors. I come with 25 years of experience to help navigate deeper coping skills to bring forth hope, strength, and new meaning. I approach therapy from a existential lens incorporating both depth and
somatic
practices. I work with individuals, and families. Give me a call and see if, together, we can make for better days.

I use individual psychotherapy, EMDR,* mindfulness meditation, and
somatic
therapy in the self-healing mind approach.
I am interested in treating people whose potential is hindered by negative concepts of themselves imprinted in childhood (through traumatic experiences or neglect of basic emotional needs) and who frequently suffer from symptoms like chronic depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. I am committed to helping these individuals attain a sense of self that brings them happiness and fulfillment. My basic perspective is that the human mind possesses the capacity to heal itself, if guided in the right way. I have explored various methods and approaches to helping the mind restore its basic wholeness.

I work from a blend of modalities including LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, Jungian theories, Mindfulness and
Somatic
techniques.
We are all human. We all deserve to be heard and seen. Your emotions, thoughts, dreams are not a burden. This is your space. Your time. From the very beginning there are expectations that are projected onto each one of us by the outside world. Expectations of how we should or should not act, feel, love, do, pursue, or be. This can develop into symptoms of feeling lost, disconnected, isolated, and never feeling good enough.

This is a
somatic
approach that allows us to get beneath the words in order to focus on actions and real, felt experiences.
I know that beginning psychotherapy can feel scary. I hope to provide a space that feels warm, non-judgmental and helpful. I tend to work with adults, adolescents and couples who are experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and many of the other effects and challenges of the world we live in. Overall, I believe that navigating these experiences feels better when we get to work through them with someone else.

I primarily work in a
somatic
and relational way which means that I deal with what is happening in the moment in the nervous system between us.
I believe in all people’s innate capacity to heal. To me, all symptoms that we experience whether it be chronic pain, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc can be explained by trauma. Trauma does not have to be big events. Trauma can be if we are not attuned to emotionally as children or if our parents have their own unprocessed trauma—this sort of trauma often leads to deep seeded beliefs that we are unloveable and bad. Our healing comes from teaching our parts that we are loveable and accepted just as we are.

Using gentle, accelerated tools proven to treat trauma such as EMDR,
somatic
therapy, mindfulness and attachment repair, you can integrate mind, heart, body and feel good.
These are such intense and overwhelming times. We are all grieving. Before 2020 maybe you had some anxiety or a history of trauma but overall you were functioning and feeling OK without ongoing therapy. Or despite all you do to take care of yourself, you were experiencing quite a bit of anxiety and stress, struggling with feelings of shame, anger or self-hatred for a very long time. Since 2020 and that's happened your nervous system is on overload and everything feels overwhelming, exhausting, scary. The existential pain you’ve struggled with is back and real and being felt by you and people all over the world.

I work from a Psychodynamic approach synthesized with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and EMDR while incorporating humor, play, and
somatic
modalities to help individuals address the various challenges that life and relationships often bring.
Personal change and growth come from an encouraging, supportive, safe, compassionate, and empathetic environment where an individual can discover oneself and grow. Are you finding those coping mechanisms which once worked for you no longer are? Do you struggle to find a connection to yourself or others? Are you finding yourself still struggling with things that happened long ago and you don't understand why? Having the courage to work on one’s relationship to self and others can be powerful, deeply healing, and perhaps one of the most loving actions one can do.

I am a practitioner of
Somatic
Experiencing, a psychobiological treatment focused on resolving trauma and stress.
I specialize in the treatment of trauma, depression and anxiety. I strive to create safety with each person I work with so we can explore what is going on emotionally, physically, cognitively and spiritually. Trauma and stress live in the body and, in my experience, an integrated approach is most helpful, where we pay attention to feelings, physical sensations, thoughts, behaviors and images that arise during sessions. I also utilize mindfulness, and inner child healing. We will work together moving towards your goals, so that as you feel better, you will have more freedom to become the person you want to be.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
