You already possess the skills you need to live the life you envision. I can help you identify and move past blockages and emotional clutter. My role in this process is to provide engagement and collaboration as we approach the discomfort, grief, or fear with curiosity and compassion.

I work with individuals to help build their self-esteem and self-confidence.
My expertise is relationships. See, maureenehosier.com and maureenehosierphd.com. My podcasts and books provide information as to what is going on between you, that your relationship is emotionally not working. There are tools to help you both to first learn to stop the disastrous conflict that you both perpetuate. And I want to tell you both what is happening and why it is happening, in order for each of you to focus on instead, making things work for you both. You both can absolutely learn to CARE for your own self and about your partner, so things work for you both, in the same moment in time. And not have to fight and argue.

You want more—more connection, more clarity, more meaning.
Somewhere along the way, life taught you to survive- by disconnecting, overthinking, shrinking, pleasing, controlling, or numbing. These patterns may have protected you, but now they’re keeping you stuck: stuck in unfulfilling relationships, in anxiety that won’t quiet, in a constant feeling that something is missing, even if everything “looks fine” on the outside. Whether you're navigating a relationship that feels off, starting over after a major change, or just trying to understand why life feels heavy or unfulfilling, you're not alone.

I specialize in working with young adults who deal with self esteem, mood, and relationship issues.
In working with adolescents and young adults, I often see them struggle with unconscious pattern behaviors that relate to early experience. The unspoken or unprocessed trauma or negative experience can affect people for years. My role in therapy is to support clients in raising awareness of their feelings, thoughts, and needs, which can help them make healthier decisions and achieve self-actualization.

Are you feeling hopeless or overwhelmed? While there are always factors outside of our control, therapy can help us to reconnect with our values and to find meaning, joy, and hope. Many of my clients are over-thinkers, preoccupied with self doubt or what ifs. In our work together, I’ll help you cultivate a new relationship with yourself that’s rooted in groundedness and self-compassion. I also know that emotional pain often shows up in the body. I focus on a broad range of clinical issues and specialize in clients that struggle with anxiety, self-worth, depression, relational issues, and family conflict.
Being a human is hard! Managing relationships (familial, romantic, platonic, professional) with all kinds of different personalities, feeling comfortable and confident in our careers, finding healthy and lasting love, and feeling good about ourselves through it all can feel like an impossible task. We were never given a manual on how to do this! And while, as humans, we are incredibly resilient and have somehow found a way to get this far, some of the coping mechanisms we have developed throughout our lives may not be serving us anymore. I help clients gain insight into their thoughts & behaviors to help improve their outcomes.

The people I work with are often struggling with trauma, relationship problems, and challenges with mood and self-esteem.
I think much of therapy involves coming to know that you are safe in the presence of another person - safe enough to feel, “not know”, and share parts of yourself that you might fear, judge, or hate. Perhaps you are struggling with a sense that something is missing in your life, or a lack of "realness" within yourself. You may be healing from a traumatic experience, or from impossible childhood situations. You may be longing for deeper connections within your relationships, or feel confused by depleting relationship patterns. Whatever you are facing, you are here because some part of you is brave enough to hope for relief.

Do you often feel anxious in relationships or like you have to shut down just to keep the peace? Maybe you grew up feeling invisible, responsible for other people’s emotions, or afraid of being left behind. Now, you might notice patterns like people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, or trouble setting boundaries. You could also be working through past trauma, healing after a breakup, or trying to find your footing during a major life change. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
