I therefore combine in-depth exploration, utilizing psychodynamic/
psychoanalytic
curiosity, with directive skills use like skills elements from DBT.
Wether you struggle to restore perspective, calm and balance in your life, attempt to heal trauma, depression and anxiety, or seek to discover and pursue greater potential and purpose, I offer a safe, open, curious and non-judgemental place to do just that. Everything you think, feel, do and experience actually makes complete sense - we simply may need some time to understand and appreciate why it does. This growing awareness allows for better design of a life with purposeful future and relief from the past, offering real, actual choice rather than the apparent choice in repetitive, automatic and unconscious routines.

We often feel lost when solutions cannot be found for the challenges we face. It's at this point that our challenges become obstacles that block us from fully living our lives. Unfortunately, time doesn't heal all pain and our anxiety, anger, depression, and fear don't always go away on their own. As a therapist, my goal is to help you better understand yourself, find purpose in your pain, alleviate your stress, and make more space for creativity, love, and happiness in your life.

I am a psychodynamic,
psychoanalytic
psychotherapist.
I work with people suffering from anxiety and/or depression who wish to deeply explore what is behind the symptoms they are experiencing. I work best with people who need a space to be heard and want to be empowered in their treatment. If you are noticing patterns and themes in your life and are unsure about why you are unable to do things differently despite wanting to change, exploring your foundational experiences can help to get to the root of the matter. Sometimes coping skills and tools are not enough, and I am here to help. I am LGBTQ affirmative, sex positive, and work through a social justice lens.

I am a
psychoanalytic
therapist who works with repetitive relationship problems, anxiety, panic disorders, long-term depression and men's issues. These often show up as poor self-esteem, feelings of loneliness and disconnection, false-self, obsessions and addictions, and unexplained physical symptoms. Sometimes people feel that something isn't right, but they aren't sure what. When friends, family and self-help aren't enough, I take the time to get to know you and listen for what repeats itself in your thoughts and actions.

I work from a
psychoanalytic
perspective with children, adolescents, and adults struggling from a variety of issues, including difficulty with intimacy and relatedness, recognizing and expressing emotional needs, feelings of loneliness or emptiness, self-destructive or self sabotaging behaviors, or repeating painful life problems with little sense of control. Since children and adolescents have not yet fully developed the capacity to talk about their emotional experience, difficulties tend to show in their behaviors, such as opposition, defiance, poor grades, or turning to drugs. In my work with adults I offer individual or couples therapy in a safe and nonjudgemental atmosphere.

My practice focuses on what is unique to your life experience through compassionate listening & careful attention to the thoughts, feelings, speech, & symptoms of past & present trauma. Those closest to us are not always able to make sense of our most intimate experiences, which can often become a source of distress. I create a safe space in which you can speak freely & elaborate on your concerns in finding the words that make sense of your suffering. I follow a
psychoanalytic
approach that explores your concerns in-depth, allowing you to be heard, seen, & understood in ways that are attuned to your life context & experiences.

While compassion is the cornerstone of my practice, I will also challenge you in more direct ways. Through the process of psychotherapy we come to know ourselves in a meaningful way. This self-insight can lead to comfort, purpose, and more settled, enriching relationships. * A note about COVID-19: this pandemic has already caused all of us great loss, destruction, and grief. We are anxious about what may come. It is of some solace to know that we are all feeling these things across the world, in our own ways, and that we will get through this.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
