I specialize in general distress, Anxiety disorders, OCD, & Tics. I treat individuals of all ages, with specialty in child/adolescent psychology.

Life can be tough. Feeling overwhelmed by your thoughts and feelings can make it feel even tougher. Worries that paralyze you or keep you from the life you want. Intrusive obsessive thoughts that get you lead to cycles of avoidance, reassurance, and actions that you take to try to get rid of them. The low lows of your mood, energy, and motivation. And all the other ways these struggles may present during times of stress or life transitions, including hair pulling, skin picking, or body dysphoria. These concerns emerge for children, teens, and adults alike. All of whom simply want a life without mental and emotional suffering.

Note: I now do in-person hiking sessions in Los Feliz (as featured in the LA Times) as well as on the basketball court!

There is a group of anxiety disorders that respond to exposure and other CBT approaches that are effective for OCD and related disorders.
OCD is a debilitating condition that consists of irrational or excessive fears and concerns that become obsessive and manifest as intrusive, unwanted, disturbing thoughts, images or impulses. These obsessions are accompanied by repetitive and time-consuming mental and behavioral acts called rituals or compulsions that are done to prevent bad things associated with the obsessions from happening. Avoidance is the third component of OCD, which involves deliberately staying away from things, people and places that trigger or worsen obsessive fears and concerns, or to avoid the risk of some dreaded event.

Beginning therapy puts you on the path toward making powerful changes in your life, including recovering from OCD, healing from past experiences, and creating a rich, meaningful, and conscious life.
If you’ve found your way to my profile, I imagine there is some part of your life that feels less-than-ideal. Change is possible and you’ve just taken the first step. Do you experience anxiety or unwanted thoughts or have OCD? Do you find yourself worrying excessively about your safety or that of your loved ones? Is anxiety or self-doubt keeping you from getting what you want out of life, interfering with your relationships, or keeping you stuck? Are you struggling with your self-esteem, body image, or perfectionism?

My areas of specialty include trauma, OCD, addiction, marginalized identities and cultural issues.
Welcome! I enjoy helping clients explore their identities and experiences in more depth in order to integrate more adaptive ways to heal from past wounds and live a more intentional and fulfilling life. In our work together, my goal is to help you cultivate greater awareness, identify and discard unhelpful patterns and create new avenues of change. Therapy with me is a dynamic, collaborative and slowed down process that acts as a container to safely explore and metabolize pain in a new way. I operate from a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens, with an emphasis in upholding anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming practices.

If you're interested in working on hair pulling and/or skin picking, please also check my website and blog HelpForHairPullers.
I work with clients on issues ranging from depression, anxiety, OCD, addiction to relationship, career and identity issues and I work with couples. I’ve had a specialty in hair pulling and skin picking since 2001: See my website.  I use many theories in my work—psychodynamic, Jungian dreamwork and mindfulness practice to name a few—but my style is existential humanistic, working in the present. I see the ultimate goal as supporting you in living from an authentic, empowered place, feeling a sense of inner security, hearing and trusting your true inner voice—not the inner critic—and having a strong sense of self to guide you in life.

I mostly work with men who are dealing with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, adult ADHD, panic disorder, difficulties with stress management, and life transitions.
Selecting a new therapist can be a little intimidating. This may be your first time seeking a therapist or you may have some experience with therapy. My commitment is to make the process of beginning therapy go as smoothly as possible. One of the most important aspects of being a human being is the ability to empathize with someone else. Therapy ought to be a time and space in which you can share your experience and sense that you are actually heard, seen, understood, and affirmed.

My specialty is treating the broad spectrum of anxiety disorders including: panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, blood draw/injection phobia, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), tic disorders, and Tourette's Disorder. I use a cognitive-behavioral treatment approach that has shown the best treatment efficacy for each disorder listed above. For example, I would use "exposure-response prevention" for OCD , "habit reversal" for tics and Tourette's, and "Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic" workbooks for panic disorder.

To treat OCD, I use Inference-based Therapy (IBT or I-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for OCD that is gentler but as effective as doing exposures (ERP).
I received my BA with Honors from Brown University and my master’s from Boston College. I acquired my clinical training at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School’s largest psychiatric affiliate, in the division of Anxiety & Mood Disorders. I also trained at the OCD Institute, the nation’s first and foremost treatment center for obsessive-compulsive disorder. I help adults with anxiety and OCD move past the “what if's” and live life with confidence and trust. Most of my clients have OCD themes that center on identity, sexuality, morality, relationships, and harm (“Pure O”). I also treat couples struggling with communication issues.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
