A former professional athlete turned clinician, I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. During my time in practice, Ive had the opportunity to work with a diverse client population ranging from 15-50 years of age, addressing a wide range of presenting problems in the clinical setting including but not limited to: Depression, Anxiety, Life and Career Transitions, Relationships,
Men's Issues
, and Trauma. As a Los Angeles native, I understand the stressors of living in the city, as well as our need to have someone to process it all with in a safe and non-judgmental space.

I am a psychoanalytic therapist who works with repetitive relationship problems, anxiety, panic disorders, long-term depression and
men's issues
. These often show up as poor self-esteem, feelings of loneliness and disconnection, false-self, obsessions and addictions, and unexplained physical symptoms. Sometimes people feel that something isn't right, but they aren't sure what. When friends, family and self-help aren't enough, I take the time to get to know you and listen for what repeats itself in your thoughts and actions.

My specialties include complex trauma, childhood abuse/neglect, healing from narcissistic/abusive relationships, codependency and relationship problems, substance use disorders, masculinity and
men's issues
, couples therapy, and working with Asian American/minority issues such as family conflict, intergenerational trauma, cultural identity & racism.
Though I work with most issues, I specialize in helping people recover from complex trauma. People with narcissistic, abusive, or neglectful parents or partners sometimes develop issues with trusting themselves, have difficulty maintaining close relationships, struggle with an inner critic, vacillate often between depression and anxiety, lack a solid sense of identity, or feel a sense of emptiness when their lives seem great on paper. Sometimes that trauma can even become part of one's identity - I work with clients to build insight, boundaries, self-compassion, and acceptance to free themselves from it & live more fulfilling lives.

I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy on a wide variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, OCD,
men's issues
, relationship issues, career issues, and spirituality concerns.
Welcome. Whether you’re considering therapy for the first time or you’re very familiar with the process, I’m glad you’re here. Oftentimes an individual comes to therapy with an issue or perhaps a variety of issues. These challenges might cause distress or control an aspect of one's life in some way or another. This can be quite difficult. In the process of therapy, insight is developed through feeling, expression, and the courage to explore aspects of ourselves that we are strangers to. As a result, meaningful change can occur and the tables may turn - managing it, instead of it managing you.

Hello and welcome. My name is Preston and I am a queer therapist of color. My first priority as a therapist is always to establish a safe and vibrant relationship with clients, believing deeply that authentic human connection is one of the greatest catalysts for healing and change. I also take a systems approach in the work I do with clients, seeking to understand each individual’s role within larger social and systemic constructs. I bring a social justice lens to working with clients, helping people to understand and heal from the effects of internalized oppression and the ways it impacts one's sense of self and relationships.

As a licensed psychologist for the past 37 years, I have worked with adult women and men - young, middle-aged and older - who have struggled with a range of anxiety, mood and relational issues. My particular focus now is working with couples - married, separated or pre-marital - to strengthen relationship skills and sustain healthy marriages. I work well with clients who either have had minimal therapy exposure, or difficulties feeling understood due to challenges intersecting with cultural, contextual and communication dilemmas. I have a limited practice, so I often work to assist others in finding culturally competent treatment.

Therapy can be scary! And I am inspired by my clients who face those fears head on and are willing to do the work. Many difficulties stem from relationships, whether that be with others or the one we have with ourselves. My work with individuals, couples, and families is direct yet warm, empathetic, and understanding as we navigate together how to process the blocks that can obstruct your view and ability to move forward. My clients can expect to explore life events from the past as patterns of behavior emerge in the here-and-now. As this self-awareness begins to develop, clients can often lead more joyful and connected lives.

I have been in practice for over 10 years, helping clients to explore and resolve relationship issues, as well as anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction. My work is client-centered, which attempts to tailor the therapeutic approach to the needs of the client. I incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral techniques, Mindfulness Practice, Narrative Therapy and Attachment Theory, which looks at the ways in which childhood experiences may affect one's relationship to self and others.

I am a clinical social worker providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families. My areas of specialty and interest are LGBTQ-identified people, kids and teens, and people struggling with eating disorders. I value critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and humor within the therapeutic relationship. I treat my clients with respect and acknowledge that they are the authorities of their own lives. I make an effort to emphasize strengths without invalidating very real feelings or minimizing problems. I collaborate with my clients to develop effective and individualized treatment plans to empower them to make changes in their own lives.

Finding support can be difficult; difficult to acknowledge and difficult to start the process. Know that you made the brave decision to prioritize yourself. Therapy could be a good option if you find yourself struggling to stay motivated, want to improve your relationships, aim to achieve growth or self-improvement, find yourself second-guessing decisions, have a hard time identifying and/or regulating emotions, or feel like you're living a life on auto-pilot. Through collaboration, curiosity, and comfort, we can identify and challenge limiting messages from the patriarchal, hetero/cis/mono-normative society we live in.

STUCK. You're not sure exactly why, but there's a nagging sense that something's off. You might call it an existential crisis. Maybe it feels like a depression, or being lost and anxious. Whatever it is, I see it a CROSS-ROADS: a chance to choose a different, more fulfilling life. I believe that the uncomfortable things you're feeling - worry, fear, frustration, or no motivation or excitement about life - are a signal from the wisdom of your deeper, truest self that something needs to CHANGE. Will you answer the call?

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
