My existence as a 51-year-old gay,
Latino
person and the life lessons that have been uniquely tied to it, has inspired me to engage with others as confidant, empath, and therapist – often a Spanish-speaking therapist.
I wholeheartedly believe that finding positive changes within us, regardless of cultural background, in an effort to heal wounds – new or old – should begin with finding a safe space where one can be themselves. For many this will take place in a setting where its host speaks a similar dialogue; whose life experiences are footnoted in a language that is both recognized and revered by both parties. It is my sincerest hope that you will allow me an opportunity to accompany you in your emotional journey and growth. “You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep spring from coming." -Pablo Neruda

I provide compassionate and culturally sensitive therapy and counseling for
latinx
, BIPOC, and women and men of diverse backgrounds.
I really enjoy working with first timers to therapy, as much as I enjoy people who've seen many therapists. I often work with artists, professionals (entertainment, corporate, attorneys, etc), caregivers, entrepreneurs, other healthcare professionals and people from all walks of life. Sometimes they seek self compassion, with a desire to know self love, others want to know themselves on a deeper level, and most are looking to heal from trauma and adversity. Whatever the reason, we focus on shedding light on strengths, pain, wellness, and connecting with one's true, authentic self.

As a Queer
Latino
from East Los Angeles, valuing diversity and intersectionality was not a common practice in both my cultural upbringing or communal environment. I struggled with navigating my identity and being accepted in a community that otherized me for being queer and
Latinx
. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have witnessed first-hand the limited resources and disproportionate discrimination associated with identifying as LGBTQ+. These lived experiences shape my work as a queer therapist of color.

Becoming a therapist was my first choice, a passion I discovered during my sophomore year as an undergrad. Of course, it was not my first major, as I thought I would attend medical school. However, due to a car accident, I had to take a break from classes with laboratory courses, which led me to psychology. The best methods to pique anyone's interest are, in my opinion, abnormal psychology and personality psychology; they started my passion for learning more. After earning my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, I applied for my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialty in
Latino
Family Studies.

We understand that mental health is not easy to seek within the
latinx
/
hispanic
community.
Often times seeking help for our mental health can be stigmatized in society making it difficult to address what is going on. This is especially common in the
hispanic
/
latinx
community. We get it. We really do. Talking about your feelings is hard when you have judgement from your culture. We don't talk about problems and they are often left unaddressed. Your feelings at times can be invalidated. You feel misunderstood and bottle up those feelings until they reach a breaking point. You may even begin to question what is wrong with you because things do not seem to get better. We're here to show you how things can improve.

As a Queer
Latinx
cis-gendered-male therapist of color, I am proud to be a representative of my often-marginalized communities.
Are you currently searching for a sense of meaning and purpose in your life? Do you find yourself in an existential/spiritual emergency? Are you exploring your personal identity, expression, or sexuality? I help people of all ages increase self-awareness and decrease symptomology by bringing unconscious material into conscious awareness. Mental health concerns eventually arise because deep in our mind/body/soul we yearn for authenticity/individuation. Together we can explore which aspects of ourselves that no longer serve us to let go, in order to make space for something new to enter.

As a queer,
latinx
, licensed therapist, I understand the unique experiences and obstacles faced by LGBTQ people of color. I work alongside clients, exploring their strengths, resilience, and finding ways to build a fulfilling life that aligns with their values and authentic self, rather than the version of themselves they've had to become to conform to the pressures of the world around them. I strive to empower clients to increase their sense of safety and connection to themselves, their bodies and the difficult systems they navigate.

In addition to my mental health specialties, I have significant experience working with LGBTQ individuals, college and graduate students, transnational people, and
Latinx
families.
Some of the questions my clients often grapple with in therapy include: What has served me in the past that no longer serves me? Which choices help me open to experience rather than withdraw? How can I rely on my strengths to overcome obstacles? How do I grow from connections and disconnections in my relationships? I am primarily guided by the unique qualities and needs of each person or couple, and work collaboratively towards their desired outcomes. When appropriate, I provide suggestions for behavioral practices between sessions, in order to bridge what we do in therapy to your everyday life.

How can I find a therapist in Los Angeles?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
