Many of the people who consult with me identify as artists, writers, filmmakers, educators, activists, sex workers,
queer
,
transgender
, nonbinary, polyamorous/non-monogamous, or are living in resistance to social norms in one way or another. Problems can seem to take over our lives when we choose live near the edges of what's deemed "acceptable," "respectable," or even "healthy."

Seeking therapy can be the first step on a healing journey and I hope to walk alongside you as you pursue personal growth. I believe that therapy can be a great way to access some of the tools that are already within us but that we may need help employing. I understand the importance of intersectionality as a
queer
Black woman and therapist and can understand how necessary it is to acknowledge the impact of intersecting identities when working with clients.

I specialize in
LGBT
affirmative therapy, which helps me to better understand difference, the need for acceptance, and oppression.
Life can be overwhelming at times because so much is happening to us and around us everyday. Navigating your way through all of it, in the healthiest way possible, can sometimes seem harder than the challenges themselves. Maintaining your peace, living unapologetically, setting boundaries, processing your emotions, owning your truths and overcoming one obstacle after another can all sound like easy tasks, but we’ve all struggled with them. I’m here to invite you into a safe and brave space of recognizing and resolving the challenges you face, while we discover your strengths. The time for radical change and healing is always now.

gay
, Jewish man, I have an ear for all people struggling with difference and oppression. I can go deep with you into healing old trauma. Or I can help you coach you with day-to-day career and relationship challenges. If you need a therapy to jump-start new growth in the New Year, I am here for you on that quest of both self-discovery and seeing more palpable results.

In any case, I am ready to join you on your journey of redefining purpose in your life and making meaningful change.

I work with a wide range of people, though through my own personal experience and specialized education, I have a passion for working with the
LGBTQ
+ community, creative individuals, couples and those with relational trauma.
Change can feel impossible. No matter how badly we want it, we feel stuck in a loop trying the same things over and over again. We want a sense of relief and for things to feel easier, but feel hopeless, constantly fighting the same battles. Despite this, I do believe we are all inherently resilient. We possess unique strengths, but they get shielded from our view because societal expectations and past experiences box us into how we think we ‘should’ be or act. We no longer see ourselves as who we actually are, but rather who the world has told us we are. We want to hold more hopeful beliefs about ourselves and the future.

You feel pulled in a million directions. People in your life and social media tell you how to fix things. But you have so much going on that you don’t know where to start. Your mind runs a million miles a minute, and your mental health suffers. All these demands make you realize you need to work actively on getting and staying better. If you've come this far it means that you are making the choice to take care of yourself and work to lead a healthy life. That is a brave and important decision, and I'm here to help. Therapy provides the dedicated time and attention required to be an energized and authentic you.

As a
Queer
Latino from East Los Angeles, valuing diversity and intersectionality was not a common practice in both my cultural upbringing or communal environment. I struggled with navigating my identity and being accepted in a community that otherized me for being
queer
and Latinx. As a member of the
LGBTQ
+ community, I have witnessed first-hand the limited resources and disproportionate discrimination associated with identifying as
LGBTQ
+. These lived experiences shape my work as a
queer
therapist of color.

I am passionate about helping people on the
LGBTQ
+ continuum achieve a wholeness and personhood not mirrored by a cis/heteronormative society.
I believe therapy is meant to be experimental, experiential, and collaborative. Carl Jung said, "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed." Insights in therapy have the potential to be challenging and painful, and my job is to help you through them. A spirit of non-judgment, empathy, directness, and sense of humor defines my style. My goal is to assist clients in connecting to their authentic Selves, for the purpose of overcoming negative thinking, self-destructive patterns, and unfulfilling relationships.

I specialize in working with the
LGBTQ

queer
community and also tend to work with individuals and partners of all ages and gender identities dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship concerns, grief, perfectionism, life transitions, and body image issues.
Welcome! My task as your therapist is to first provide a space where you’ll feel free to talk openly and be your truest self. Then, together, we will get to the bottom of whatever it is that may be contributing to the way you're feeling, and collaborate on ways you can begin to feel more at ease, empowered, and in alignment with your personal values, goals, and unique identity. I believe that we all hold the ability to manage life's challenges. To do this, we sometimes need a supportive guide. Enter therapy.

My areas of focus include: anxiety, self-esteem, the
LGBTQ
+ community, complex trauma, relationships (with self & others), and people pleasing.
I believe everyone is capable of living their fullest, most vibrant life and it is my passion to help them achieve it. I help clients foster insight by processing their past experiences and gently uncovering the ways their pasts connect with their current struggles. I teach clients to discover the patterns and rules that keep them stuck and then support them in cultivating a life that brings them joy and fulfillment. I invite my clients on a journey of self-compassion and teach them how to prioritize gentleness and self-care. I believe therapy can be silly and even fun while still being impactful and effective.

How can I find a therapist in Los Angeles?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
