I specialize in recovery from alcohol, drug, and gambling addiction and resolving the issues that have contributed to it.
This isn't something that I've learned in theory. I've been in recovery from addiction for over nineteen years, and helping others is my passion. I also understand that there are many paths to recovery, and I respect and believe that you need to create your own path and learn to live a genuine and meaningful life.

Today I work primarily with young people who struggle with co-occurring ADHD, digital gambling addiction and co-occurring mood disorder.
I'm born and raised in the UK and have lived in Los Angeles for 12 years. I'm here to listen, here to talk, here to help. I am familiar with challenges that life can present as well and the complexities within ourselves which can make these obstacles difficult to navigate. I am gentle, straight to the point and have a good sense of humor.

The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts.
My goal for each man I work with is to provide hope and support while facilitating the recovery process. This usually requires us to dig deep and figure out why we engage in destructive behaviors. It also requires us to develop a treatment plan that specifically targets the maladaptive behaviors and reduces the chance of relapse.

I spent a few years working in addiction treatment and have worked in residential treatment centers helping clients struggling with drug, alcohol, and gambling addictions through a 12 step lens.
Building insight is an incredible tool in the therapeutic process. I work on helping my clients notice patterns of behavior they tend to engage in, and work on understanding themselves better. I am very client centered; I follow your lead and point out the things I am noticing along the way. Together, we talk it out and help you make behavioral changes!

I've worked with many clients struggling with substances and gambling, highly anxious folks, and depressed individuals, as well as conducted family sessions with those affected as well.
Hi! I’m Sarah. I approach my clients with warmth and empathy. I work with individuals dealing with a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, processing trauma, grief, feeling stuck, stress/burnout, addiction, relationship issues, etc. I understand that sometimes the most difficult journey is just getting ourselves into therapy in the first place. I also see couples for relationship therapy, collaborating on building communication skills, navigating stressors and dynamics impacting the relationship, sex/sexuality, conflict resolution strategies, and more.

I also have compassion working with individuals with acute/chronic medical conditions, Perinatal/Maternal Mental Health, and Gambling Addictions.
Seeking therapy for many can be a challenging step to take. This is why I believe in providing a safe space, free of any judgement, which is essential when building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I am here to serve as your guide towards self-discovery and self-reflection. Often, distorted thoughts lead to maladaptive behaviors, which in turn can impact the way you view yourself, perceives others, and/or view the world. Therapy can help with learning new skills and techniques that can assist you with breaking these patterns. Discovering your own voice will help you feel empowered.

Some of the issues I help with are: depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, substance abuse, relationship issues, familial conflict, sexual identity, mood disturbances, disturbances of personality, gambling, shopping & sex addiction, social issues and phobias, trichotillomania and body focused repetitive behavior disorders.
I do my best to keep an open mind and to create an environment that is conducive to fostering open communication and trust. I respect and value the thoughts and feelings of my client's. I believe that therapy is, ultimately, about freedom and that healing occurs through the process of self-exploration, understanding, finding meaning and deepening one's insight. I tend to work directly and dynamically, rather than passively; I do a lot of listening and I am also active in the therapeutic role.

I work with individuals, couples and families struggling with substance and alcohol use, as well as behavioral addictions such as porn, gambling, gaming etc.
Feeling overwhelmed by addiction and looking for a way forward? Seeking an alternative to rehab or unable to take leave from family, work and responsibilities? Overcoming addiction is hard, likely one of the hardest things you will go through, and you don't have to do it alone! I have served countless people, just like you, in finding a new path that doesn't depend on substances or behaviors that promise relief, but often bring guilt, regrets, dysfunctional moods, and damage the relationships of those we love the most. Freedom from addiction can be hard to imagine, I know firsthand. Seeking professional support is a great step!

How do gambling rehabilitation programs work?

There are both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. However, for some individuals, an outpatient facility may not offer enough hands-on care, and for other individuals, an inpatient facility may be too much. Both types of care have knowledgeable health professionals including physicians (in the case of residential programs), psychologists, counselors, psychotherapists, and recovered mentors.

How do gambling 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Abstinence and maintenance are key for 12-step gambling disorder programs. Individuals in a 12-step group rely on each other for support and accountability. In addition, there is often a spiritual element to these programs, whereby belief in a higher power can help the individual overcome their tendencies. If an individual genuinely wants to cease gambling, attending a 12-step program along with regular psychotherapy can be highly effective.

How long does therapy take for gambling disorder?

Recovering from gambling disorder takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but a person can see change if they stick with therapy and if they have the will and desire to stop. Treatment for gambling disorder requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers, as well as the development of coping skills. Making lifestyle changes is also important, such as staying away from lotteries, online gambling, and casinos.

Is relapse a problem for those with a gambling disorder?

Gambling disorder is often chronic and can be life-long; therefore relapse may present a problem for some individuals. But effective treatment can bring a person’s life under control. To remain healthy and on track, the individual may need to regularly check in with their support group or psychotherapist. Frequently refreshing their tools of recovery can be helpful.
