My clients are adults of all ages who are dealing with anxiety and/or depression. They have difficulty focusing on tasks or leaving the house. Some have struggles with
family
, including with past or current relationships; others have suffered trauma as children, or as adults. My younger clients are trying hard to live their lives as independent adults, but are feeling lost, or find it too hard to establish stable relationships, or resolve issues with parents or roommates. Many of my older adult clients need help coping with the challenges and losses associated with aging; but they also seek social connection and a sense of purpose.

My practice is intuitive and client specific. Clients come to me with a wide arrange of intentions and desires; processing trauma, managing stress and anxiety, overcoming depression, wishing to grow spiritually/personally, identify areas in which they are stuck, diagnoses,
family
and relational troubles, or support in dealing with every day life. I strive to offer a safe, attuned, and empathetic space. I appreciate collaborating with my clients in a way that works for them. The most rewarding part of being a therapist is seeing my clients grow, discover, and know themselves deeper. I am honored to be a witness and facilitator.

Hello and welcome. So let's start by dispelling the common misconception that therapy is for the weak and broken. This could not be more untrue. Therapy is for the bold and intrepid. Therapy is for those who are unwilling to accept how things are and choose instead to brave the roads less traveled in search of something better. So whether your dissatisfaction lies in patterns that you can't seem to break free of, turbulent relationships with partners,
family
or friends, or in the daunting challenges posed by depression, anxiety, grief et al., your insistence for change not only should never be shamed, it should be deeply admired.

I also work with clients who are facing life transitions (a new job, becoming a parent) and those struggling with challenging
family
members.
The therapeutic process is about becoming most fully ourselves. The more we come to know ourselves in an authentic and true way, the more fulfilling our lives and our relationships become. Change occurs when there is a new understanding, not just in our intellectual mind, but in our bodies and spirits as well. This kind of work, though difficult, and sometimes painful, is also deeply rewarding. It can also seem like a scary idea to some, not knowing if making lasting change is even possible.

"
Family
Therapists" utilize a systems centered approach that takes the "blame" off of the client and helps the client move forward in life with less "baggage.
"The purpose of therapy is to remove blocks to truth; to help you abandon any patterns of belief that no longer serve you in a productive way; to implement self-forgiveness. Therapy can alleviate suffering and open the door to peace of mind. It can assist in separating illusion from reality and even reality from truth. Finally, it can help you to learn to make your decisions from internal prompts because you have created an internal locus of control." From "A Course in Miracles" Most clients start noticing change in their perspectives, outlook and coping skills early in the process.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, a life transition,
family
/parenting concerns, or other mental health issues, we are all trying to better understand ourselves and break free of our limiting patterns and beliefs. My approach to therapy involves a strong foundation in formal therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT,
family
systems, and others, while at the same time recognizing that you are the expert of your own life, and it is through the therapeutic process that you will come to gain valuable insights, recognize your potential, and enhance your capacity for self-love.

Asking for help is one the most courageous things we can do during difficult times. Whether it's improving communication with a loved one, a shift in your career, or a good old fashion confidence boost, I enjoy helping each client explore their needs with empathy and understanding. With a unique upbringing of Japanese/Filipino/American cultures and a deep understanding of how
family
structures affects our current state of being, you will find that our conversations are open - free from conventional judgements or restrains.

I believe that we all face friction in our relationships and day-to-day living. Consistently encountering the same types of issues, however, can be the result of blind spots that blur our view of reality. Psychotherapy exists, in part, to help identify these areas of hazy perception and to resolve them over time. And with improved clarity come choices that are more plentiful, more attainable, and more likely to result in an improved appreciation of everything around us -including ourselves. This process can only happen in a safe, non-threatening environment.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
