I have a deep appreciation for the connection of mind, body and soul through EMDR , mindfulness, meditation and movement.
In today's world we are surrounded by constructive and destructive forces. It is easy to get sucked in by the destructive forces such as fear or negativity which can lead to uneasiness, isolation, and disappointments. I believe therapy can be a helpful space to shift your focus to more constructive forces within yourself, your family, and your community. Therapy can help you to channel the pain into creation of a peaceful act, whether that's developing greater self-compassion, or untangling any relationship issues.

The EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) approach can help you become more resilient and cope better with your problems.
At times, we experience painful feelings of guilt and shame, or think "I am not good enough". I specialize in helping individuals with severe sexual abuse & trauma. My primary approach is called EMDR , a mind and body therapy which can help you cope more effectively with painful emotions. When a person experiences mild to severe trauma such as abuse, divorce, job stress, or a life-threatening illness, the brain cannot always process the event as it should. As a result, trauma can have a lasting effect and can interfere with your relationships, job and coping with everyday life. EMDR treatment can help move toward healing.

I specialize in working with trauma survivors. For the past ten years, I have been providing therapy to survivors of abusive relationships/domestic violence, sexual abuse, and adult women and men who were molested as children. I am certified in EMDR , an integrative psychotherapy treatment for processing of traumatic memories and adverse experiences and bringing them to an adaptive resolution. I am curious about who my clients are and what each of them needs; I see them as experts of their experiences and I feel honored to be a part of a mutual exploration of their self.

I also offer EMDR , and Haptic Trauma Therapy, which is trauma work using a pottery wheel.
We often forget that our first experience of the world is a shared one; that by nature we are relational beings. Which is why therapy can be so powerful. My job is to help you move away from the things that no longer work (perhaps never did), and toward a preferred way of being. Our process together is one of discovery & transformation, and honors both what you are and what you are becoming. You and I will collaborate to create an environment that is safe and supportive (I don't do that alone -- only you know what is safe). Through compassion & curiosity, our therapy will find new narratives and make meaning of old ones.

My work is trauma informed and I am an EMDR trained therapist.
I believe that the therapeutic process is about attunement and connection. My style is curious, non-judgemental, and empathetic. I enjoy working with people who are dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, and those who are ready to process experiences of trauma. I utilize a psychodynamic perspective which means I like to collaborate with the client in an exploration of their history to better understand themselves. I also work relationally and intersubjectively which means that together we will explore how the unconscious plays out within the therapeutic relationship.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
