I’m so glad you're here. This process can feel daunting, and I’m excited you’re reaching out. If you're experiencing anxiety, burnout, grief, chronic health issues, or relationship and parenting concerns, you’re in the right place. I specialize in working with individuals in their 20s and 30s, as well as new or hopeful-to-be parents. My clients are thoughtful, capable, and deeply caring - yet still feel overwhelmed, anxious, or self-critical. There’s often a lot of overthinking, a tendency to put others' needs first, a deep-rooted sense of shame or loneliness, and a quiet longing for things to feel calmer or more balanced.

In a society with high standards, caregiving challenges, and demanding work environments, it is easy to forget about our own well-being. It can even appear more convenient to put our mental health on the back-burner, but if we disregard self-care it can lead to a burnout. Burnout can lead to mental exhaustion, cynicism, detachment, and depression. Furthermore, when we are burnt out, the light we shine on and for others is diminished. I can assist and support you in working through hardships that may cause you frustration, have you in a burnout state, and/or make it difficult for you to manage daily tasks.

Serenity, Equanimity, Peace of Mind. Are these qualities sorely missing from your life? You are not alone. Most Westerners experience rushed living, lack of acceptance, anxious and depressed mood - what inevitably amounts to suffering. While pain is a universal experience, with practice suffering can become optional. But lack of skill, low motivation, and general haggardness of life prevent many from consistent self-care which can alleviate suffering. If this is your story, The Serenity Center was opened with you in mind. Reducing suffering to manageable levels is an achievable goal - and all you may need is a skillful guide.

Have you found traditional talk therapy has helped reduce your symptoms, yet you find yourself desiring a deeper, more embodied transformation? I offer trauma-informed somatic therapy, which can create deep structural change that is difficult to access through talk therapy alone. These body-based approaches allow you to reach parts of the brain that language can’t access, rewiring deeply held patterns, attachment, and emotional wounding. I specialize in working with self-esteem, spiritual growth, anxiety, depression, trauma healing, and relationships.

Dealing with persistent physical and emotional pain is enough to leave you feeling defeated. It can be an isolating experience when loved ones want to help but don't truly understand what you're going through or how to support you. Even if you do have a diagnosis for your pain, it can be a painful grieving process to reconfigure your lifestyle and expectations for yourself. Maybe there are days you find yourself wondering if your symptoms are caused by your actual illness or the amount of stress it has caused you.

BIPOC - Have you experienced loss or adjusting to change? Life comes with loss and change: the death of a loved one, the loss of health, a break-up. Dealing with any loss and adjusting to major change often negatively affects us, and our emotional well-being and coping habits are sometimes compromised as a result. It is easy to fall into depression or develop anxiety if our coping is not managed and nurtured appropriately. I’m glad you are taking steps to process what change or loss means to you. As an Asian American Filipina, I provide culturally competent therapy services to those managing dual/multi cultural/BIPOC identities.

Psychotherapy services are for individuals, couples and families experiencing the effects of cancer or chronic illness.
As a cancer survivor myself, I know first hand how scary the "C" word is. As a result of cancer treatments, often times people develop mild to severe forms of depression, anxiety, "scanxiety," and post-traumatic stress disorder. Many people experience symptoms during treatment while others are symptomatic only after they are in full remission. My practice treats fellow warriors and their families that are navigating the cancer process, survivors trying to figure out their “new normal”, individuals in remission for years but are still processing the events that once happened, and those currently experiencing metastasized cancers.

Chronic Illness Therapists
How does therapy for chronic illness work?
Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?
Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?
No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?
There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
