I work with couples and individuals, and also facilitate groups for women, therapists, and those struggling with chronic illness seeking support and connection.
Sometimes you just need someone to talk to, to sort things out--especially when you're confused or feel stuck. I offer a safe space for you to get to the bottom of what's going on and get clearer about what you want, who you are and who you want to be.

I have worked for over a decade in the field of chronic illness and have witnessed first hand how disruptive unexpected and threatening change can be.
I am invested in facilitating lasting and generative growth and self-realization in my clients. Change is hard and inevitable, and sometimes it is something we choose (divorce, career change, major move), and sometimes it happens to us (loss of a loved one, diagnosis with illness, loss of a job), but no matter the circumstance, together I believe we can work to move through it and emerge feeling healed, whole, and ready to live each day to its fullest. I am invested in being the best therapist for you and hope you will contact me so we can discuss how you can live with intention, meaning and purpose. I am accepting new clients.

My passion is to work with clients who suffer from or are impacted by physical difficulties such as cancer or chronic illness .
Individuals affected by cancer or other physical illnesses often do not realize the influence that the illness has on their mental health until the emotions are all consuming. This is where I step in: to help you deal with life-altering, overwhelming changes that come with the diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and grief of physical illness. I have a wealth of experience working with individuals, couples, and families impacted by physical illness, and believe that physical illness affects the entire family system in a multitude of ways. Whether you are a survivor, caregiver, are grieving, or in the midst of illness, you are not alone.

In my practice, I offer specialized treatments for insomnia (CBTi), chronic pain, coping with chronic illness , and stress/anxiety; I am also a mindfulness facilitator and yoga teacher.
Therapy is an opportunity to invest in the emotional education your younger self may have never received, and wished they had. It's a space to explore old patterns and habits, and to discern which ones are serving you, and which may be getting in the way of the life you'd like to live. I help my clients get unstuck, through exploring and shifting their relationship with their own thoughts and emotions. I empower clients by equipping them with coping tools to manage stress and balance the nervous system, ultimately in service of reconnecting with whatever it is that drives them- their core values.

Psychotherapy services are for individuals, couples and families experiencing the effects of cancer or chronic illness .
As a cancer survivor myself, I know first hand how scary the "C" word is. As a result of cancer treatments, often times people develop mild to severe forms of depression, anxiety, "scanxiety," and post-traumatic stress disorder. Many people experience symptoms during treatment while others are symptomatic only after they are in full remission. My practice treats fellow warriors and their families that are navigating the cancer process, survivors trying to figure out their “new normal”, individuals in remission for years but are still processing the events that once happened, and those currently experiencing metastasized cancers.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist, clinical supervisor, and psychoanalyst-in-training. I find great satisfaction in helping my patients connect with, and have compassion for, their deepest authentic selves. Many of my patients are adult children of parents with mood or personality disorders, addictions, or who for other reasons were neglectful, rageful, or highly critical and pressuring. While my specialties include working with other mental health professionals, enhancing creative performance in artists and lapsed artists, chronic illness , and trauma/PTSD, I truly enjoy working with a diverse spectrum of people and issues.

Chronic illness sufferers! You know how hard life can feel. Sometimes just getting up in the morning can feel like a monumental task and other times you feel ok. The struggle is never knowing which way it’s going to go. I’ll bet your life would feel easier if you could learn how to cope with this uncertainty, while also finding ways to share your experience with your people. So many of us (yes, us!) attempt to hide our struggles for fear of being looked at as “the sick one” and that takes a toll. Working through your own judgements and anger will help to shift the way you walk through life...even on days you feel like crawling.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
