I work with individuals from all ages and life stages (teens - adulthood) experiencing anxiety , depression, burnout, transitions, and relationship challenges.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the daily grind? Maybe your to-do list feels endless. Or the pressure of "doing it all" make it impossible to feel like you've ever done enough. Being hard on yourself is a hard pattern to break, but if you're feeling burnt out, alienated, or alone, then I'm glad you're here. Finding a therapist can be daunting, but once you start the process the self insight can be life-changing. I love being a part of the process, helping individuals slow down and become more attuned, connected, and compassionate towards themselves.

I have been in private practice since 1986, over 30 years. My specialty is helping individuals who suffer from the whole spectrum of anxiety disorders. Any therapist "worth their salt" is one who has been tested by fire and has lived through a transformative experience so that they can truly share their wisdom with others. When I speak about anxiety to a client, I've been there. I am an expert on anxiety , fear, phobias, and panic .

I treat anxiety , OCD trauma, identity issues, and relationship problems.
There is significant strength in seeking support and guidance when you need it. My clients are often those who reach a point of feeling lost or overwhelmed and understandably cannot move forward on their own. They might feel disconnected from themselves, feel stuck due to past experiences, or recognize that the way they are living their life does not align with what truly makes them happy.

You hide it well. You dress the part. You focus on other people so they won't focus on you. You do well professionally and it distracts you from how deeply alone you feel. Often if seems easier to pretend that you're OK, but deep down... you hope for something more. I specialize in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adults who struggle with shame, depression, suicidality, divorce, anger, anxiety , isolation, or estrangment from family members. I also specialize in working with friends and family members of narcissistic personalities.

Life is a lot to handle at times. This as well as depression, anxiety , transitions, loss, pain caused by trauma, societal norms that misalign with our personal values, career uncertainty, self-doubt, relationship issues, & more. Weeks, months, and even years can go by before we even realize how much it is impacting us in all areas. The beauty in these situations is an opportunity to develop the healthiest version of ourselves with support. Many people turn to therapy. It’s no secret that people do not come to therapy just to talk, but, to also turn their challenges into opportunities for insight, growth, & goals to achieve.

Common problems that bring people to therapy include anxiety , depression, relationship issues, feeling stuck in a rut, grief, hopelessness, self-esteem issues, or work-related stress.
For over twelve years, I've been seeing clients (both individuals and couples) and my goal has always been to help them achieve real change, whether in getting through a difficult current situation or wanting to break old patterns that keep them from living a more fulfilling life. Since I know starting therapy with a new therapist can feel daunting, I offer a complimentary fifty-minute first session to help make sure I'm a good fit for you.

I work with people suffering from anxiety and/or depression who wish to deeply explore what is behind the symptoms they are experiencing. I work best with people who need a space to be heard and want to be empowered in their treatment. If you are noticing patterns and themes in your life and are unsure about why you are unable to do things differently despite wanting to change, exploring your foundational experiences can help to get to the root of the matter. Sometimes coping skills and tools are not enough, and I am here to help. I am LGBTQ affirmative, sex positive, and work through a social justice lens.

Being able to have meaningful relationships in your life takes effort and can make a difference in the difficult situations that you may face during a lifetime. Sometimes the ghosts from our past make it hard to trust and communicate with our loved ones. Your past and present environmental stressors and relationships can shape who you are today and create feelings of depression and anxiety . At times, doing anything to cope seems necessary. However, with therapy, you can find those strengths that you already have and bring them to light in order to change your quality of life for the better.

My areas of specialization include trauma-related disorders; attachment pathology; intimate partner violence; relationship conflict; anxiety ; and depression.
My primary tasks are to help clients become aware of their innate ability to heal themselves and to help them create solutions to problems that may have seemed unsolvable. From a theoretical perspective, my approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, and the cognitive and behavioral therapies; but above all, my work is pragmatic.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
