I received my Master’s in clinical social work from the University of Southern California and I have experience in working with clients struggling with problematic substance and
alcohol use
, depression, and anxiety.
Life can be difficult and we all find ourselves at times struggling with difficult thoughts and feelings. Past traumas or current stressors can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, or disconnected from ourselves and others. As a psychotherapist, I provide a compassionate, safe, and non-judgmental space for clients to explore with curiosity their feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and how they serve them and where they would like to bring in change.

I work with teens and adolescents with kids who are are struggling with a variety of mental health issues while trying to find themselves in this complex world. Many of my teen/adolescent clients struggle with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, ODD, OCD, school anxiety, experimenting with pot and
alcohol use
, conflict with their families, self esteem issues, social anxiety, anger management and sexual identity issues. We talk about what's going on in their lives and I help them with DBT and CBT techniques to manage triggers so they don't act on these intense emotions to create an even more difficult situation or crisis.

I have success working with clients who have difficulty with codependency, big life changes, executive functioning, identity (Christianity & LGBTQIA+),
alcohol use
and hoarding.
Clients who work with me realize how they can be in the driver's seat of their life and challenge the anger, guilt and pain that keeps them stuck. Many of my clients overlook their well-being due to exhausting themselves in their relationships or have difficulties with confidence, boundaries and managing big emotions. I help clients develop skills to deal with challenging situations, process complicated emotions, and establish healthy relationships with people and themselves. I strive to create a safe and encouraging space where you are able to freely share, express unfiltered thoughts and explore personal pains.

Greetings :-) My aim is to help you help yourself. And I love doing that in a profound way. Psychotherapy & life coaching have allowed me to dive deep with people to help them become their best selves. When I'm not doing therapy, I'm making music, hiking, surfing, or reading something thought-provoking. I may even recommend books, movies, etc. to help you dive even deeper and get the most out of our time together. Are you ready to move forward in your life?

I believe the best way to make progress in therapy is to have trust that your therapist understands you and makes you feel as comfortable as possible. I will try my very best to be that person for you. Therapy can seem weird, and vulnerability is hard for anyone. My name is Jess and I am an LCSW in California. I have worked in the medical field for most of my career. This has given me the unique opportunity to work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and situations.

I work with people to help them create meaning and connection in their lives to achieve their goals. Each person has unique desires, goals, and values that are meaningful for them and contribute to their behavior. Human beings also share the same basic needs for living a life that is sustaining for health, safety, and wellbeing. A healthy curiosity to understand the reason for the development of our thinking patterns, respect for our feelings, and a willingness be open to new experiences with kindness to ourselves gives us courage to grow and change.

Being addicted to alcohol or drugs is like being in a dark pit where you do not know what is up and what is down. It is cold and lonely, and you can feel hopeless about finding any escape. Being the family member of a loved one who is struggling with addiction is scary and can leave you sad and in a constant state of uncertainty. You are always asking yourself why is your loved one pushing aside the life ring you toss out and grabbing the anchor of drugs and alcohol over and over and over again. You see they are drowning and feel you cannot save them. Addiction is insidious, but there are paths to recovery.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
