I am EMDR Certified, and have additional training in Family Systems , Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
My approach to therapy is rooted in a belief that change is possible. Most of my clients come to me because something in their lives isn't working. Whether the problem is familial, romantic, professional, emotional, or even existential, I find it usually comes down to a matter of relationship. How are we relating to the things that cause us to suffer? When we understand these relationships and the parts we play in them, we are free to make different choices, and to experience our lives, ourselves, and our loves in richer, more fulfilling ways.

I am also trained in and regularly offer Internal Family Systems ( IFS ) therapy.
I view psychotherapy as a collaborative, co-creative process. It is important for the client to feel a connection with his/her/their therapist and to sense that the therapist has the client's best interests and well-being at heart. I believe that through the process of expanding upon one's inherent strengths and developing insight and awareness, one is able to move into a more empowered state leading to a more enjoyable and gratifying life, a life in which one is able to fully participate. I have worked with many people over the last decade in the arena of psychedelic assisted therapy (MAPS, CIIS (CPTR) degree, and KAP trained).

I work from a holistic & trauma informed lens utilizing attachment theory, Internal Family Systems ( IFS ), transpersonal, somatic, mindfulness practices and spiritual philosophy.
I approach psychotherapy in a way that encourages you to develop the emotional space to examine challenges without identifying as the problem themselves. Our work will be rooted in collaboration, where you define your goals and we then work together towards achieving them. I help you to cultivate an awareness of your own strengths and support you in learning to lean into them so that you can more effectively navigate the issues you're facing. Together we'll identify the blocks that get int the way and help you cultivate new ways to interact with and respond to these challenges helping you to embody your full potential.

I have a special interest in life transitions (leaving college and entering the workforce, life after a divorce, life after a major loss or break up, life after leaving a treatment center program, etc), anxiety and depressive disorders, and assertive communication/healthy boundaries in family systems .
If the old coping strategies have stopped working, or worse, are becoming self-destructive, reaching out for help can be a daunting but ultimately liberating step toward growth and healing. My communication style is direct, but equally warm, empathic, and relatable. I have been practicing for 25 years and am well trained to work with both youth & adults in both short-term behavioral skills-based treatment models as well as longer-term supportive psychotherapy. I have worked in both the private and non profit sectors as a clinician, clinical supervisor of intern therapists, Family Program Director, and Clinical Consultant.

“Bridging is the work of opening the gate to the stranger, within and without.” – Gloria E. Anzaldúa. You’re at an inflection point. A chasm appears insurmountable. The ground has shifted; you’re on rocky terrain. The trail’s end is hazy, but you catch a glimpse: the outline of a hopeful future, somehow. Neglect can match abuse in its decimation of the soul. So let us nurture those neglected pieces of yourself too long ignored.

You're intimately familiar with the usual advice: "Don't sweat the small stuff!" "Take things as they come!" "Just think positive!" Do suggestions like these fill you with rage? I get it. You KNOW there are things you could do differently. You try to do everything right. You still end up feeling misunderstood, guilty, unfulfilled.

My clients appreciate how we work together to uncover what they want and what's getting in the way; define values and move towards a life aligned with those values; answer a calling instead of being discouraged by comparisons; understand the source of feelings in order to address core concerns; and ultimately build a life worth living. Whether it's addiction, anxiety, depression, relational issues, trauma or something else... my clients are looking to heal so that their reactions to the world are not programmed by past wounds, and they are instead able to deal with the present moment appropriately.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
