I have experience dealing with a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, interpersonal skills,
relationship
concerns, personality issues, multiculturalism, sexual orientation, trauma, and cultural adjustment.
We all have emotional needs to feel understood, accepted, and validated by others. But, seeking support may be more challenging to some of us because of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, language differences, religious reasons, or other minority status. I went through similar challenges and I have a great passion toward working with people who feel isolated, misunderstood, and disenfranchised . My heart especially goes out to immigrants, racial and ethnic minorities, and international students, although I enjoy working with anyone who has the courage to seek help.

Have you ever had the thought that you can’t remember what it’s like to NOT feel anxious? Does your mind continuously operate on overdrive? Are you tired of the same repetitive thought patterns? Is life feeling like one endless chore with no light at the end of the tunnel? Have you ever told yourself you know you need to make a change, but you can't muster the will power to follow through? Do you feel stuck in your
relationship
patterns but don't know what or how to change? If you answered yes to any of the above, we might be a great match. I believe that great therapy involves using many lenses or frameworks in order to heal.

Much like any other
relationship
in life, a therapist-client
relationship
requires some chemistry and a "good fit".
One piece of feedback that I constantly get from my clients is that they appreciate my ability to quickly build rapport and how they're challenged by me in sessions. I believe that in order to grow, we have to want to face what makes us most uncomfortable. I think someone who is seeking a more action-oriented and direct therapist would fit well in my practice. I like to work towards solutions and I want you (the client) to feel like you're progressing as a person in the course of your treatment. My ultimate goal is to get you better and out of my office back to your life....that's when I know I've done a good job.

I believe my position, as a therapist, is to
partner
with my clients in a safe environment that will allow resources to be uncovered and new choices to be discovered. These tools will equip them to find desired changes and/or fight their problems. Life experiences can limit what is available and by processing these experiences people can find understanding, healing and/or the ability to move on and thrive. I work with individuals,
couples
and families, and have a specialization in working with preteens/teens as well as persons with terminal illnesses. I offer a free phone consultation.

Whether you or your teen struggle with your
relationship
with food, OCD, trauma, anxiety, or a life change, you don't have to be alone & you are deserving of support.
On the outside, you look like you have it all together. On the inside, you feel overwhelmed, pressured to be perfect, out of control, & alone. You're tired of worrying about the what ifs. What if you don't do or eat the "right" thing? What if the thing you fear most comes true? You've done everything the "right way" yet the what ifs and rules continue to change, taking up more of your life and leaving you exhausted. You want to reclaim more of your life and no longer be controlled by your feelings and worries.

Sometimes it can feel like everyone else is doing so much better than you are. You might look around and wonder, why am I not where I thought I would be at in this point in my life? Am I not good enough, smart enough, or brave enough? Is there someone to blame? Is it because my body is broken, or my heart, or all of the above? I know that life is complex. I know that bravery and resilience come in many forms. I want to
partner
with you on this journey and help you remember things that you may have forgotten about yourself. I’ve witnessed people change their lives in ways that they would have thought were unimaginable. You can too.

The most transformational aspect of therapy is the
relationship
between client and therapist; the sense of trust, empathy, and security are foundational to healing.
My aim as a clinician is to treat the soul, not the symptoms. As a depth-focused psychotherapist I strive to focus on the individual, not their diagnosis or symptomology. My ideal clients are people who not only wish to address their mental health, but develop a deeper understanding of oneself. I have worked alongside clients to address Anxiety Disorders, including Social Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Mood Disorders, Attachment Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Addiction. My goal is to help clients achieve relief from their mental health by working to heal the wounded aspects of themselves.

Therapy is a
relationship
in which healing takes place from past or even recent traumas.
With many years of experience, I facilitate client's growth through techniques designed to take people deeply into their "shadow" side while acknowledging that therapy is a
relationship
where healing can take place by assisting the individual in being seen for who they really are, freeing them up to be who they are, whether they have felt excluded or have been traumatized or struggling to find healthy relationships. Experience with all ages allows me to help clients with whatever issue they bring to our
relationship
. My ideal client has suffered a loss or failure. The pain from this motivates them to want change and growth.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
