I help kids, grownups, and everyone in between find their own True Voice, so they can live the lives they deserve.
Maybe your child is misbehaving at school, or your
teenager
is sullen and distanced, or you're in love and know you'd like to stay with this person, if you could only change a few things that really scare you. Or maybe there's an aggressive part of you that your parents didn't know how to handle, or a hurt and vulnerable side that you've always felt too ashamed to feel.

In life there is pain. Painful experiences growing up that stay inside and manifest in our everyday behavior and internal struggles. In my work, whether the person is a child,
teen
, young adult, parent, or woman, I aim to provide a space of compassion and safety from which to understand the world around us (relationships, school, work, friendships) and the internal world within us (thoughts, emotions, pain, discomfort). The goal in my work is to help you/your child get in touch with, tune in, and understand themselves; in particular thoughts and feelings.

I work with teens and adolescents with kids who are are struggling with a variety of mental health issues while trying to find themselves in this complex world. Many of my
teen
/
adolescent
clients struggle with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, ODD, OCD, school anxiety, experimenting with pot and alcohol use, conflict with their families, self esteem issues, social anxiety, anger management and sexual identity issues. We talk about what's going on in their lives and I help them with DBT and CBT techniques to manage triggers so they don't act on these intense emotions to create an even more difficult situation or crisis.

Is it ever difficult to understand your child's behavior or your
teen
's angst? Do they speak a language or behave in a way you find challenging? Children from infancy through adolescence can seem unmanageable at times causing parents to feel overwhelmed and powerless. Why continue struggling? If your child is having a difficult time at home, in school, or with friends, I can offer insights and recommendations as well as provide a safe space for everyone to learn respectful, meaningful communication directed toward positive change. Let me help you and your family get there together.

Are you struggling with overwhelming emotions? Have you experienced loss, trauma, or other challenges? I am here for you, to help you overcome the emotional pain of past experiences. As a
teen
, I myself personally experienced the devastating losses of multiple loved ones. Through my own heartbreak, emotional pain, and grief, I was even more inspired to comfort and sit with others during their most challenging times. Funny thing is: I knew I wanted to become a psychotherapist before I even know what a therapist was! I feel so lucky today to counsel clients with such diverse and different stories, backgrounds, and experiences.

These are uncertain times! You know you could use some support, that you want to feel better, maybe less anxious, so you came to this website. Congratulations on taking the first step. However, you've been scrolling the pages on this site for a while and every therapist is beginning to look the same, and every blurb sound alike. It's hard to find a therapist, especially if you don't have a personal referral from a friend or colleague. Let's talk on the phone for 10 mins to figure out what you're looking for right now, see if we're a good fit and discuss how I can help.

Your child is a source of light. But perhaps you've noticed their light has dimmed recently and you feel concerned. Perhaps your
teen
is falling behind in school, having difficulty connecting with their friends, or experiencing confusion as they explore their gender identity. Your young child may be having anger outbursts or challenges with their behavior at home. Adjusting to the ever-changing COVID-19 lifestyle might be causing worries and changes in mood or personality. Or your child might have experienced a major stressor like divorce, a death in the family, or even a traumatic event like a car accident or an act of violence.

Whether you or your
teen
struggle with your relationship with food, OCD, trauma, anxiety, or a life change, you don't have to be alone & you are deserving of support.
On the outside, you look like you have it all together. On the inside, you feel overwhelmed, pressured to be perfect, out of control, & alone. You're tired of worrying about the what ifs. What if you don't do or eat the "right" thing? What if the thing you fear most comes true? You've done everything the "right way" yet the what ifs and rules continue to change, taking up more of your life and leaving you exhausted. You want to reclaim more of your life and no longer be controlled by your feelings and worries.

My background is in clinical wilderness therapy,
adolescent
psychotherapy, and adult trauma treatment.
Therapy can provide a safe space for individuals to explore vulnerable dimensions of oneself and explore meaning in life’s experiences. Therapy with me is rooted in relationship. I understand that value of a trusting, authentic relationship between therapist and client, and I offer insight, support, compassion, and curiosity in a nurturing way that allows clients to examine patterns that both aid or hinder individuals’ potential for wholeness. I work from a depth-oriented, psychodynamic framework, understanding that one’s self is a manifestation of one’s whole life experiences. I provide both short and long term therapy.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
