I am also experienced at working individually with clients on relationship problems, disordered eating, trauma, self-esteem, anxiety , depression, and identity-related issues.
People refer to therapy as a science or practice-but I have come to view it as an art in the most exquisite form. Therapy is about expressing and emoting, and finding value in the internal and external relationships we create. My education and clinical experience has verified the depth of this "art," revealing knowledge that can be gained, healing of old scars, and magic that can ensue when self-love occurs. I am a firm believer that therapy is not a requirement for healthy living, but similar to music and film, it can add intrigue, deepen relationships, and significantly enhance the quality of life.

I help men and LGBTQ individuals who are struggling with stress, anxiety , and difficulty making decisions at home and work.
What's wrong with me, I should have this figured out by now! But no matter what you tell yourself, you can't break free from the stress that's draining you. It pulls your energy in every direction, never caring that there’s only one of you. Meanwhile, your mind is radio-fixed on what could go wrong if you make a mistake, your anxiety growing. You need a break. Time to spend with those you love, where you can catch your breath. Peace to make confident decisions, finally getting ahead at work. The ability to turn down the background noise of your mind, embracing both rest and accomplishment. But how do you get from here to there?

We learn to understand and resolve - rather than hold onto - difficult feelings like anxiety , depression, or trauma.
You wish you could slow down, but pressing demands make that option almost impossible. You want to make clear decisions, use your time intentionally, and make space for what you love. You wish you could focus attention on things you care about. You want to enjoy close relationships without worrying about work, and set boundaries so you can actually enjoy time off. Maybe you look around and wonder how other people do it. What you need is a better way to manage difficult emotions so you can feel okay again. That's what helps us feel strong.

I work with individuals and couples struggling with anxiety , ADHD, vocational, or relational issues who seek to thrive emotionally, individually, and relationally.
I empower my clients to take the next personalized and informed steps towards effective, lasting change. We'll work together to set goals based on your current struggles at the same time as we identify your strengths. We will apply these to the issues keeping you from achieving stability, contentment, and a sense of thriving in life. As your symptoms remit, the way forward feels clear. Future choices become clear decisions. As you learn coping skills in a warm, relational setting, we will alleviate your symptoms by identifying and challenging your existing thought, emotional, or behavioral patterns that no longer serve you.

Kim is an integrated, relationship-based Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in stress and anxiety treatment with over 10 years of experience working with ages 3-60 in clinical settings as well as in senior management positions in clinical programs and services.
One's experience with fear, stress, sadness or uncomfortable feelings in general can have major impacts on how we view ourselves and the world. However, when provided with therapeutic guidance, collaboration, skills training, education and support, I have learned that one can cultivate courage, growth and resilience that allows them to reengage in life in meaningful ways. The process of therapy is a collaborative one and I believe that the relationship we develop through our work together should aid in instilling hope and increasing motivation to tackle whatever challenges you face.

You'll learn to overcome difficult emotions like depression, anxiety , and anger.
You've probably always wanted to be able to feel calm in the midst of difficult situations, maybe for your whole life. But for many of us, this doesn't come naturally. The reality is, for those people you look up to in your life who are able to have strong relationships, feel calm under pressure, it doesn't come naturally for them either. They learned an important skill called emotional regulation that guides them through difficult times. It's what helps them make clear decisions, express themselves vulnerably, manage their time and money well, and share deep moments of connection.

A person most often seeks therapy when a part of his/her life feels unmanageable. Often past skills used to cope are no longer effective and one may feel vulnerable and alone even in the presence of others. Sometimes these feelings occur after a recent transition in a relationship, career choice, or a recent move. At other times, someone may experience diffuse feelings of anxiety and sadness without a specific stressor.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
