My clients are adults, teens, and couples, but I specialize in women's issues .
Staying sane in an insane world is crazy-making! As our modern culture has become more complicated, so have our lives. Living at a fast pace, we may find ourselves feeling isolated, lost, or even hopeless. In these times I believe it is courageous to seek therapy when something "feels off." You already possess the skills you need to live the life you envision. I can help you identify and move past blockages and emotional clutter. My role in this process is to provide engagement and collaboration as we approach the discomfort, grief, or fear with curiosity and compassion.

I work with adults, couples and families in dealing with a variety of issues such as, relationship issues, women's issues , parenting issues, mood disorders and addictions.
I believe there is a natural tendency toward growth, a desire to be more of ourselves and to enjoy the things we do. For many, that curiosity and vitality has been restricted or shut down. This may lead to feeling depressed, like nothing will change for you. Or anxious, it will only get worse. Or perhaps you sense things could be different and are frustrated, not knowing how to access that new way of being. Psychotherapy is a process through which you can understand how these feelings have come about and how to access your natural tendency toward wellness.

On the outside you have it all together, and it seems like no one knows you're struggling. But on the inside, you feel overwhelmed, detached, stuck, burnout, stressed and depleted. It takes tremendous courage to start letting someone else in. I value your trust and start by actively listening to what it feels like for you on the inside. We will explore the different parts of you longing to be heard and seen, and will also support you learning to trust your own wisdom and the ways your body may have been communicating with you all along. Whatever may be the reason for disconnection from yourself, there's always a way back.

Often in my practice I work with people who appear put together, but inside feel lonely, lost and disconnected. Many times these feelings are a response to experiencing trauma. We tend to think traumatic events only include extreme experiences like war and assault, but trauma can also occur through more nuanced events that break our trust in others, ourselves and the world. Both kinds of trauma trigger our nervous system in ways that can affect our health and limit our ability to have close, meaningful relationships. BUT neuroscience has shown that over time the human brain can rewire itself to new ways of thinking and responding.

You're a people-pleaser, late-bloomer, self-explorer, or someone who values your inner life and wants to dive deeper. Adults who are creative, curious, and compassionate but struggle to apply those strengths to themselves consider me a good fit, as do those who crave relationships but find them to be more trouble than they're worth.

Considering therapy is typically not done lightly. More often than not, people find themselves lost, alone, or out of touch with their usual selves. Seeking therapy is an effort to do just about anything to finally feel better. Are you are feeling weighed down by life's stressors, like it is impossible to be a woman in today's society, struggling to navigate the transition to motherhood, overcome with sadness, and hopeless about how to take care of yourself, your relationship, or your child? If you are searching for holistic support in embodying your role as a mother, or mood management during pregnancy and post-partum, I can help.

My goal as a psychologist is to help you realize your best possible self. I focus on helping people build skills and capabilities in order to live happy, meaningful and successful lives. In our fast paced, productivity obsessed culture, it's easy to get off track and one day wake up to realize you're not living the life you wanted. There are so many forces at work on us, including systemic oppressions and their effects (fear, anger, perfectionism, self-judgement, imposter syndrome, etc). Therapy can be a bolster and a support - a means to explore values and goals, reconnect with your best self and create the life you want.

Are you finding it is hard to stay focused and take care of yourself while taking care of others? Perhaps you are navigating health challenges, chronic illness, chronic pain or are going through the process of pregnancy to postpartum. All of these experiences can really increase anxiety making daily tasks and responsibilities all that much harder to achieve. You put on a brave face so everyone thinks you have it all together & that you're fine, but that's not true. In fact, keeping up the façade that everything is great is leaving you feeling exhausted & you are ready for a change.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
