Life is sprinkled with peaks and valleys. I am grateful to partner with clients to help soften hard edges, find ease with traumatic past events, and connect with their true selves and others. My passion lies in addressing
trauma
and relational issues and unlocking gentleness and connection within oneself. I believe that
trauma
can be stored in the body and that body awareness and gentle coping skills can ease triggers and long-term stress. I promote empathy, acceptance and compassion to further harness clients’ strengths and tackle life’s obstacles.

Often in my practice I work with people who appear put together, but inside feel lonely, lost and disconnected. Many times these feelings are a response to experiencing
trauma
. We tend to think traumatic events only include extreme experiences like war and assault, but
trauma
can also occur through more nuanced events that break our trust in others, ourselves and the world. Both kinds of
trauma
trigger our nervous system in ways that can affect our health and limit our ability to have close, meaningful relationships. BUT neuroscience has shown that over time the human brain can rewire itself to new ways of thinking and responding.

I am
trauma
-informed, and LGBTQI/Kink/ENM Affirming.
There are countless stories and ideas we're told about who we can and should be! More successful, more actualized, richer, taller, thinner- with all that noise around us, it is often hard to hear our own voice telling us what we value, what makes us feel alive, what is worth our energy and attention. When we feel stuck or weighed down by
trauma
, depression, anxiety, or systemic injustice, it’s especially hard to access our preferences, inner resources, and community. Our voice gets lost or neglected. This is my commitment to you in our work – to make space for your voice.

If you have relationship conflict, feel depressed, anxious, or have
trauma
, you need a therapist who is both knowledgeable and experienced. In my many years practicing I've had the pleasure of teaching at USC, writing, and helping individuals, couples, and families who've had vastly different problems. Because everyone is different, I adapt to your particular needs. I listen and I partner with you to accomplish what works best for you as I know a wide array of treatment approaches. In fact, I have taught them. I think you will find me warm, open and friendly, and that I have a very broad knowledge base to draw upon.

As an Asian-American DREAMer and a DACAmented bilingual/bicultural therapist, my heart lies in supporting members of the API community who have experienced marginalization due to their intersection of identities (ie spirituality, sexuality, legal status, cultural background). Specifically, I work with individuals as well as "minister's kid/pastor's kid" who have experienced religious and relational
trauma
, imposter syndrome, dysfunctional relationships, and repressed sexuality as a result of the internalized cultural and societal messages they were exposed to that have further perpetuated an oppressive narrative around who they are.

Therapy is a unique process that facilitates the reconnection and restoration of your authentic self. The famed psychiatrist Carl Jung once wrote that we “walk in shoes too small," meaning we limit our own potential, whether we are conscious of it or not. In that sense, the work of therapy is to broaden ourselves and fully embody the potential that awaits each of us. We aim to aid your growth toward clarity and self-acceptance, and to help you shed that which no longer serves you, all within a safe, contained environment.

Staying sane in an insane world is crazy-making! As our modern culture has become more complicated, so have our lives. Living at a fast pace, we may find ourselves feeling isolated, lost, or even hopeless. In these times I believe it is courageous to seek therapy when something "feels off." You already possess the skills you need to live the life you envision. I can help you identify and move past blockages and emotional clutter. My role in this process is to provide engagement and collaboration as we approach the discomfort, grief, or fear with curiosity and compassion.

Do you find yourself waking up each morning with a sinking sense of dread, disconnected from your partner and even from your own sense of self? As a high achiever, you constantly push yourself to perform at the highest level, but deep down, you struggle with feelings of inadequacy. The constant worry and stress you experience begin to take a toll on your day-to-day life, relationships, and work. The pressure to live up to someone else's standards becomes overwhelming, and you question whether this stress and pressure will ever improve. If you ignore the underlying stress and anxiety, it can lead to burnout and relationship conflict.

Would you like to let go of concerns about your weight and body image? Is emotional eating one of your primary coping mechanisms? Many women, across the life span, struggle with issues around food, their bodies, and self confidence. Stress, all-or-nothing thinking, and perfectionism, among other issues, can all get in the way of living more fully. I work holistically with women, as I believe that all aspects of our lives, from sleep and nutrition to relationships or past
trauma
, are integrally related. We will work together to develop the insight, skills, and tools you'll need to achieve your goals.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
