I work with individuals and couples, specializing in gay male /LGBTQ populations.
Are you feeling stuck in relationships, jobs, or entrenched beliefs about yourself that may not be valid? Unhealthy thoughts, feelings, behaviors and attachments can create patterns that lead to anxiety, depression, addiction and more. The definition of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.” If you want to break the cycle, therapy can be a powerful tool in helping you identify problem areas and begin your personal transformation. The process begins with having someone who will listen, understand your needs, uncover stressors and seek solutions.

As a culturally competent Therapist, I focus on being an agent of change that supports women, men , and couples.
Upon starting a new therapeutic journey, I always share that through this process, we will change the idea of “why is this happening to me” to “everything is going according to plan.” As we get started, the first order of business is to construct an environment where you can feel seen, heard, and safe throughout this journey of self-discovery. The goal is to meet you where you are, so we can get you where you want to be. We will accomplish this by taking an integrative approach to facilitate personal growth and healing by identifying themes, unresolved conflicts, and behavioral patterns.

Let's face it. Men HATE talking about their feelings. Really hate it. They would rather have a root canal. Women spend their whole lives sharing their thoughts and feelings, but that is not true for men . Just the opposite. I understand what a challenge it is for your husband or boyfriend to open up and express their feelings. I help guys like me talk about their feelings to increase emotional intimacy, decrease conflict and improve their relationships with their girlfriends or wives. My mission is to HELP COUPLES HEAL.

I'm a psychotherapist working with individuals, couples and families in the LA area and Sandpoint, Idaho. I have 25 years experience in one location and challenge the problems facing our complex and diverse society today. I believe in the Unity of Life. From the earliest single cell forms of life, to the complex human organism, there is a basic energetic function that unites: Pain & Pleasure, Thinking & Emotion, Mind & Body, Man & Women, Family & Society. When this unitary function is disrupted and blocked, healthy life suffers. Conflict and stress from this unitary disruption often results in irrationality, unhappiness and/or disease.

I work with a wide range of clients, and especially with couples in cultivating intimacy and a shared sense of purpose, with men interested in recovering a sense of joy, and with expats and adults in the creative fields.
I offer support for individuals who are feeling stuck and looking to foster joy through better relationships. Together, we’ll build greater awareness around anxieties, fears, triggers, or conflicts that get in the way of connection with others. We’ll work to identify your needs and further develop skills to communicate them. We'll spend time calling attention to beliefs, "shoulds" and narratives that might no longer serve you. We'll find the things that get in the way of self-compassion, and unpack them together.

I work primarily with adult men and late teen adolescents. I help people who struggle with emotional connection in their relationships with their partners, family and friends. Struggles in emotional connection sometimes take the form of difficulty being vulnerable and comfortable in relationship, effectively communicating needs and wants or sensing a lack of meaning, direction or purpose in life. It's through deepening our emotional connections, first with ourselves, that we can then go forward in life and relationships from a more secure and confident place.

Feeling stuck or caught in an endless loop of personal challenges? Fortunately, therapy is where we can discover the unconscious patterns of our behavior that unknowingly create recurring problems in our lives. It is also where we can explore our hidden selves and examine what it means to be both vulnerable and strong. You may be seeking therapy for emotional healing, relationship challenges or contemplating a significant life change. Whatever your reason, my goal as a therapist is to help the people I work with ignite healing transformations through insight, awareness, self-discovery, self-compassion and cognitive skill building.

In our work together we will explore the landscape of our experience and the parts of ourselves that bring about challenges in our lives. Nothing is wrong with you: you are simply dealing with challenges the best way you know how. Sometimes our previously successful methods of coping become outdated and just do not work anymore. This most often shows up in our relationships with others and our mood. In this exploration we will develop fresh perspective, unblock our internal healing system, alleviate old pain, and build better relationships.

Welcome! My task as your therapist is to first provide a space where you’ll feel free to talk openly and be your truest self. Then, together, we will get to the bottom of whatever it is that may be contributing to the way you're feeling, and collaborate on ways you can begin to feel more at ease, empowered, and in alignment with your personal values, goals, and unique identity. I believe that we all hold the ability to manage life's challenges. To do this, we sometimes need a supportive guide. Enter therapy.

Before I went to therapy, I did the same thing again and again while hoping for different results. I would get excited about a person, a project, or an idea, and then lose interest. I had friends, some money, and an impressive resume, but I couldn’t figure out why I felt stuck and confused. In therapy, I began to realize that I couldn’t tolerate my own discomfort long enough to stay when things got real. I saw that my head was full of other people’s voices. Slowly, I learned that the artfulness of life isn't in pleasing myself or others. I learned that the power is in being present with reality, uncomfortable as it can sometimes be.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
