I utilize a trauma-informed and
attachment-based
lens for both individuals and couples.
Do you want to experience a safe connection, be seen, and valued? Do you feel like you have been misunderstood and mislabeled throughout your life? In my therapeutic approach, I strive to collaborate with clients to uncover harmful projections and traumatic experiences that have left them feeling hurt, fragmented, and alone. Together, we can work towards reframing and rewriting your story so that you have a say in how it is told. Whether you have experienced toxic relationships, emotional cut-off, or any challenging experience - my goal is to help you decide what is the best path for your life!

I utilize a range of modalities, including
attachment-based
reparative approaches & EMDR, to help you create a fulfilling life that is more than the sum of what happened to you.
Hi! I'm Rebeks (they/them) - a transmasculine nonbinary therapist who specializes in trauma, LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy, and life with chronic illness, disability, college/academia, and affirmative approaches to neurodiversity such as Autism, ADHD, and OCD. I love working with folx in the "gray spaces" of identity who aren't quite sure they are (fill in the blank) enough. My approach to therapy is to provide solidity and a sense of containment to enable the deeper healing-work — especially for those with complex trauma, dissociation and early attachment ruptures.

My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

I believe therapy is a container for self-expression where you can show up exactly as you are. As a person with lived experience of being queer, Arab, Non-binary, and Muslim, I have seen first hand how difficult it is to find someone whose values align around the importance of community and is committed to a trauma-informed framework. Growing up in a world that constantly feeds us narratives such as “healing happens alone” and “we are solely responsible for the state of our own wellbeing” can be deeply challenging and frustrating. Together, we will dismantle the notion of isolation as a symbol of strength.

I help individuals and couples identify the obstacles that get in the way of their joy. Often the pains of trauma and other life events make it difficult to trust ourselves and our bodies. Our work together will help you trust yourself, improve your relationship with yourself / partner and empower your overall wellness. Guilt, shame, depression and anxiety are feelings that often create suffering related to and that affect self worth, sleep, social interactions, and romantic relationships. Together we will explore the root of the suffering and how to empower healing within you. You are the expert of your healing.

You are so much more than you know. At your core, you know your true wants and needs, but past experiences can create patterns that keep you from being consciously aware of them. Therapy can help you to know yourself better, offering greater understanding that allows for more fulfilling relationships with yourself, your loved ones, and your work. In therapy, we will work together to reveal the meaning behind challenging experiences and their affect on your life. In doing so, your difficult feelings can transform from a source of pain that keeps you stuck in patterns into a helpful guide toward growing, thriving, and loving yourself.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
