As a Queer Latino from East Los Angeles, valuing diversity and intersectionality was not a common practice in both my cultural upbringing or communal environment. I struggled with navigating my identity and being accepted in a community that otherized me for being queer and Latinx. As a member of the LGBTQ + community, I have witnessed first-hand the limited resources and disproportionate discrimination associated with identifying as LGBTQ +. These lived experiences shape my work as a queer therapist of color.

Certified in LGBTQ populations, I work with all varieties of sexuality and coupling from monogamy to non-monogamy.
How does your need for certainty play out? Does it force you to try to predict? Does it persuade you to declare things that you don't actually know? Perhaps the need for certainty is powerful enough to rob you of genuine moments with loved ones or with yourself. Research finds that people who take risks (those who step into the unknown) are happier than those who merely reach for reward or gratification. Why? Because healthy risk-taking has rewards sewn into the experience when we authentically try. It builds skills in self-advocacy, self-love and self-worth.

My main areas of focus include the queer community, working professionals, performers, artists, and couples of all types ( gay , straight, polyamorous, etc).
Therapy changed my life. In fact, it led me to become a therapist. Professionally, I had reached a level of success as a business owner that kept me financially comfortable. Unfortunately, my "success" left me feeling depressed and anxious because I felt that I lacked purpose. I was lost in addictions and reckless behaviors which further galvanized my sadness and kept me feeling disconnected from how to make meaningful change. Therapy allowed me to become more connected with myself.

I help creative individuals manage anxiety and heal from trauma. You've worked hard and have come a long way. On the outside everything seems fine, but on the inside there's the worry, the tension, the self-doubt, and the old wounds. You’re not sure where to start, but what you do know is that something has to change. You want to heal past hurts, change repeated patterns, and feel more grounded, calm, and empowered. Therapy can help. My experience includes working with difficult childhoods/difficult pasts, anxiety, multicultural, LGBTQ +, and spiritual issues.

My practice is LGBTQ + affirming, sex-positive, and honors all bodies and identities.
My clients are often creative, compassionate people who are experiencing anxiety that makes it difficult to show up fully in their lives. Often, folks step into therapy with me because they are looking for a safer space to examine feelings of dissatisfaction or distress, and are curious about how to foster a greater sense of self-esteem. I particularly enjoy working with high achieving Millennials and Gen Z, and women in male-dominated industries. If you're ready to navigate your life more comfortably, gain confidence in your abilities, and build skills to better cope with your feelings - I can support you in that.

My practice is LGBTQIA affirmative.
Seeking therapy can feel daunting. Even when we know something has to change, it can feel more comfortable to stick with old habits. Clients are often surprised to hear me say - we keep "bad" habits for good reasons. We develop predictable patterns to feel safe when we lack outside supports to help us feel grounded, connected, accomplished, or hopeful. I support clients to increase their awareness of their own patterns, perceptions, reactions, learned behaviors, and true desires, so they have more choice in how they respond to people and situations and can take steps to build better relationships and more fulfilling lives.

I am sex-positive, kink-aware, LGBTQIA + affirmative, and welcoming to all non-traditional relationships and lifestyles—I consider it an honor to serve my community in this capacity.
Seeking therapy is a brave step. Whether you are presently in crisis or simply feeling a bit stuck in life, I honor the effort & courage that it took you to get here. It suggests that—regardless of how you might feel in this moment—some small (or large) part of you believes in the possibility of a more peaceful, fulfilling life. As a therapist, I am here to not only affirm and amplify that belief, but more importantly, to help you discover and define its reality for yourself.

Hey there, I’m Ginny a first-generation Filipinx/a/o American, survivor, queer asexual, woman of color. Being a woman of color, I felt that I could never measure up to eurocentric beauty standards, nor did I fit the stereotype of being an intelligent Asian. This made me think that I wasn’t good enough. As a survivor, I know the pain, shock, and fear from the trauma and the isolation that comes with it. I have a deep understanding of the suffering that comes with not being accepted as a member of multiple marginalized communities. Through the help of my therapist, I learned how to accept myself — to be witnessed, heard, and held.

I specialize in working with members of the LGBTQIA community.
Throughout our lives, we all have experienced feelings of depression, anxiety, and anger. These emotions leave you feeling insecure, shameful, lonely, unworthy and stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior. Trauma can have negative emotional and physical effects and can lead to family/relationship issues. I specialize in solution-focused brief therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and CBT. These approaches allow me to work with the client to decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression and other health/behavioral issues.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
