trauma
-informed care. I specialize in working around issues of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem and life transitions. Psychotherapy has the greatest impact when it is collaborative, interactive, and
trauma
-informed. I provide a safe, empowering space where we can slow down & untangle the messiness of being a human. Some of the goals of our work together will include: managing stressors, breaking old patterns, setting healthy boundaries, and weathering the upsets of life through mindfulness, co-regulation, and self-compassion. Therapy is about connecting to your strengths and learning how to integrate your experiences, including your traumas, into a healed, authentic sense of self. I am trained in attachment-focused EMDR & the Hakomi method.

I work with adults & kiddos struggling to come out of their shell as well as folx seeking support around grief,
trauma
, gender & sexuality.
Choosing a therapist is an important decision. In my experience, the best therapeutic work happens when there is a strong relationship between you and your therapist. I believe that healing happens when you are able to share your inner world with another person and feel safe and supported doing so. My goal is to create an environment where you feel seen, heard, cared for, and understood. The therapeutic process can be both challenging and rewarding. Processing your experiences in therapy helps to deepen self-awareness, and can positively impact your mood, functioning, and interpersonal relationships.

If you’re looking for a place to sort things out, process the endless complexities of 21st-century life, navigate depression, learn about
trauma
, be companioned through grief, or if you'd like to simply be accompanied compassionately by someone who shows up empathetically and authentically (tattoos, cursing, and all) I hope you'll reach out. My goal, as a therapist, is to help people reconnect with their true selves. I believe that we all have the innate ability to heal ourselves and change. However, whether it be
trauma
, attachment issues in childhood, or unconscious stories that we live by – we become stuck in beliefs or situations that no longer serve us. That is where I come in. Together we will build an environment that will allow you to make contact with the parts of yourself that have been cast aside in order to heal. My style includes humor, gentle confrontation, and an empathic abiding presence. I hope to help you create the life you desire.

I know that beginning psychotherapy can feel scary. I hope to provide a space that feels warm, non-judgmental and helpful. I tend to work with adults, adolescents and couples who are experiencing
trauma
, depression, anxiety, grief and many of the other effects and challenges of the world we live in. Overall, I believe that navigating these experiences feels better when we get to work through them with someone else.

I enjoy working with both couples and individuals who are grappling with a variety of life challenges; life changes, including health issues, career goals,
trauma
, loss, anxiety or mood disorders.
If we have learned anything from the pandemic, it is that we all need and thrive in relationships. Therapy is an important tool for developing and nurturing positive relationships, both with others and with yourself. Using my training as a marriage and family therapist, my life experiences and love of people, I foster a safe, warm, non-judgmental environment. I believe that it is not the challenges or traumas that form us, but how we respond to them. Collaboratively we can build resiliency as we discover and heal the obstacles that interfere with you having a deeper, more meaningful life.

My client population consists mainly of the LGBTQ+ community and individuals struggling with
trauma
or anxiety. In addition, I address challenges particular to women's issues, sexual and gender identity concerns, negative self image/body image and depression. We work through these dilemmas through purposeful and compassionate self care, empowering talk therapy, applied mindfulness techniques, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a process that can help to heal the effects of
trauma
) when applicable.

Stepfamily life is challenging. You may very well be wondering how you're going to do this. It looks like it "should" be easier than it is and that you "should" be able to figure this out. Your loved one cannot understand why you struggle. But I do. I've been there and it is why I help couples dealing with stepfamily life. You are going through challenges that simply do not occur in a first family. Learning about these dynamics and working with them creates more remarriage success. I can help you find success in your stepfamily.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
