I have worked with a diverse group of clients from various backgrounds and sexual orientations: adults, adolescents and couples and am comfortable working with many issues including but not limited to generalized anxiety,
depression
, childhood trauma, relationship distress, lack of self-esteem and strong inner critical voice, suicidal ideation, OCD.
Therapy offers a confidential place of refuge where you can be seen and heard. Together we will explore how external pressures and feelings of self-blame, self-criticism, fear or sadness, as well as loss and past trauma, may be affecting your ability to move forward or express yourself in an authentic way. By devoting time and attention to understanding your unique story and the ways in which past relationships shape current ones, you can gain greater self-awareness and an understanding of how underlying feelings and thoughts are affecting your mood. In building a strong relationship I will help you work through core issues.

I believe that each of our lives is an ecosystem, comprised of the interconnecting forces that influence our well-being. This includes our relationships with other people, with cultural and economic forces and even our own bodies. When we are out of balance or suffer trauma, we are often left feeling anxious,
depressed
or lost. Could you use an ally in making the "ecosystem" of your life more healthy and vibrant? I provide therapy for adults, children, couples, intimate partners and groups.

My approach to psychotherapy is to help you achieve the emotional stability and personal growth you have wanted. I understand that disorders such as anxiety and
depression
(these are just some of the disorders that I have a great deal of experience in) can really impact your quality of life, and make it hard to engage in a fulfilling and meaningful daily experience. With the mental health services that I have to offer, you can learn to cope better with past, current, and even future problems, so that you may achieve your life worth living.

What if there’s nothing to fix? What if your darkest feelings were welcomed? What if the key to healing your anxiety and
depression
is actually allowing yourself to have anxiety and
depression
? What if your body holds all the answers… And what if the answers begin with self-acceptance? Too often I witness clients grinding to “figure it out;” keeping a scorecard of their traumas, abandonment fears, and depressions, trying to isolate parts of themselves to change so that they can be “better.” In the end, this only compounds internalized shame, unworthiness, and insecurity. So what if we try a different way? What if we try gentleness?

I spent my first in the entertainment industry and am especially understanding and successful with creative individuals dealing with loneliness/
depression
, life transitions, relationship issues and creative blocks.
Every client is unique and my approach varies depending on the needs of the client. At the heart of my practice is listening carefully and maintaining a stance of curiosity with the goal of trying to understand my client's unique experience in the world. I believe the most important factor of successful treatment is not theory or technique but the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. I work collaboratively with a warm, empathic, down-to-earth style that helps individuals feel comfortable, where dialogue and the process of reflection and exploration allow insight and growth to develop.

Miranda holds space with empathy and creativity while helping her clients heal blocks to peace and self-acceptance. Often these blocks come up as trouble spots in love, work, and relationship to self, which can cause anxiety or
depression
among other troubling symptoms. Miranda assists her clients in identifying coping styles that were created and needed in childhood, but no longer serve them in their quest for authenticity and full self-expression as adults. Miranda collaborates with each client, helping to find the combination of understanding, acceptance and action that lead to profound change.

I work with those struggling with relationship issues, anxiety,
depression
, boundary issues.
The therapeutic process is about becoming most fully ourselves. The more we come to know ourselves in an authentic and true way, the more fulfilling our lives and our relationships become. Change occurs when there is a new understanding, not just in our intellectual mind, but in our bodies and spirits as well. This kind of work, though difficult, and sometimes painful, is also deeply rewarding. It can also seem like a scary idea to some, not knowing if making lasting change is even possible.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
