I’m committed to being supportive as clients work through anxiety,
grief
, depression, trauma and relational transitions.
"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty." (Maya Angelou) I understand that as we experience life we will inevitably encounter obstacles and stressors that challenge us to change. I also believe these moments present opportunities for transformation. I recognize that life transitions and personal experiences can sometimes be overwhelming, however they can also be valuable seasons with the potential to generate "peak and valley" experiences that can alter our life course.

I specialize in helping people cope with
grief
and
loss
in a healthy way.
Have you lost someone you love? Maybe they passed away, or maybe they are still around, but the situation has changed. You might feel lost and confused, as though you are a stranger in your own life. Standing in the sun, you feel chilled and alone. Or you may feel relatively well, but deep down you know there is "a lot to process". You can stuff your feelings, but it won't be so simple to move on. You want to feel healthy, comfortable, to UNDERSTAND, and know that you can not only survive this experience but also transform it, transcend it, and make peace with your demons.

BIPOC - Have you experienced
loss
or adjusting to change? Life comes with
loss
and change: the
death
of a loved one, the
loss
of health, a break-up. Dealing with any
loss
and adjusting to major change often negatively affects us, and our emotional well-being and coping habits are sometimes compromised as a result. It is easy to fall into depression or develop anxiety if our coping is not managed and nurtured appropriately. I’m glad you are taking steps to process what change or
loss
means to you. As an Asian American Filipina, I provide culturally competent therapy services to those managing dual/multi cultural/BIPOC identities.

Stepping into therapy may be due to depression, anxiety, phobias, relationship issues, an inability to find meaning in life and living. If you are driven to grow, develop and have a natural curiosity in examining life, living and discovering more about your own path, then psychotherapy is one way to engage in series of exploratory dialogues to live with higher level of awareness & consciousness. Brainspotting, EMDR and use of evidence based breath meditation integrates mindfulness, brain and body-based therapies in aiming help to access parts of the brain that are difficult to reach through conventional therapy methods.

Often during a challenging time or life event, we may realize that the things that used to work to navigate stress, anger,
loss
, disappointment, etc.
It can be overwhelming to find a therapist who is a good fit - made harder when you may already be overwhelmed by the very reason you are seeking therapy services in the first place! I know, I’ve been on the other side myself. As a clinician, I partner with you, meeting you where you are now, to learn what your goals are for therapy. It’s always an honor to get to know you and bear witness to your journey which I do in a curious, non-judgmental and compassionate way. The therapeutic process is a nuanced interplay of you being understood and heard, collaborative problem solving, and learning about yourself.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
