I appreciate the uniqueness of everyone's story, which is why I utilize a combination of modalities, from trauma work, CBT, ACT, EFT and
Attachment-Based
therapy.
I have over 12 years experience in the field of grief, loss and life transitions and have seen how disruptive it can be to individuals, partnerships and families. I have worked primarily with clients who have been impacted by a chronic health condition, those who have lost a loved one or are experiencing anxiety and depression due to a life transition. My approach is to make meaning of your losses, support you through your grief and identify strategies to help you feel grounded, connected and seen.

Do you often struggle with interpersonal relationships with friends, romantic partners or family members and find yourself caught in similar relationship patterns? I help individuals and couples who want to work on creating and fostering healthy and fulfilling relationships. Together we will work on examining why you often feel stuck in repetitive relationships patterns that you can't seem to get out of and the ways that it impacts other areas of your life. I use an attachment based lens to help guide treatment and explore the ways your past attachment patterns may be showing up for you in the present.

In my work with children and teenagers, I see behavior as having meaning. Difficult behaviors such as defiance, tantrums, aggression, and isolation are often the youth’s maladaptive attempts at communicating emotions. I see my role as a facilitator of effective communication, collaborating with youth to understand their experiences and identify/verbalize their thoughts and feelings. With a decade of working with kids in a variety of settings, I work primarily from a relational and
attachment-based
foundation, which utilizes compassion, attunement, and co-regulation to promote wellbeing through enhanced relationships and self-worth.

I'm happy you're here. It takes courage to seek out a perspective that can transform and empower you. When we allow ourselves the time to connect with our bodies, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, we can heal and release what no longer serves; while at the same time strengthening what is true. Everything you are feeling serves a purpose. It is useful information. Symptoms such as: anxiety, depression, addiction, or relationship challenges are all trying to tell you something. You need some attention and we can all benefit from positive, focused attention where we need it.

You’ve been stuck in “autopilot mode” for a while, but the dissatisfaction has become almost impossible to ignore. It can feel like there’s a voice deep down in your body, screaming at the top of its lungs to be heard, but the idea of acknowledging and confronting your anxieties alone seems impossible to bear. On the outside, it looks like you “have it all together,” but in reality, you spend the entire day in your head, and walk on eggshells to avoid conflict or making others uncomfortable. It may sound surprising, but these could be signs that you are in “survival mode." You may feel stuck or disconnected, but there is hope.

My approach to therapy is rooted in a belief that change is possible. Most of my clients come to me because something in their lives isn't working. Whether the problem is familial, romantic, professional, emotional, or even existential, I find it usually comes down to a matter of relationship. How are we relating to the things that cause us to suffer? When we understand these relationships and the parts we play in them, we are free to make different choices, and to experience our lives, ourselves, and our loves in richer, more fulfilling ways.
Sharon Halimi
Marriage & Family Therapist, MA, MFT
My name is Sharon Halimi. I work with adolescents and adults to help each client become connected with their 'true self' while addressing core issues on deep levels.
I work with clients within a psychodynamic framework, and focus on each client's unresolved or unprocessed issues and conflicts that he or she may not be consciously aware of. Focusing on the unconscious aspects of each client helps he or she develop increased understanding of their thoughts and feelings.

There's a desire to express helpless and repressed feelings. You need help sorting out the confusion and alleviating the fears. You've managed well enough on your own, but don't want to anymore. You want support. You need it. Tired of holding in your feelings, you want to acknowledge and talk about them, even though there's a part of you that's afraid. Doing "all the right things" has worked at times, but has it, really? You're now sick and tired, feeling alone, and darned if you do or don't. Aligning with your core values has become important. Striving to break free from who you think you should be is becoming what you're seeking.

Therapy is a sacred space and my focus is on helping you get to the root cause of your struggles. I find healthy relationships are the key for psychological, physical, and spiritual health. I provide awareness into your behaviors, and the ability to see the underlying issues of why you're unsatisfied with your life. If you're having difficulty regulating your emotions when it comes to romantic relationships, or feel that you find yourself in the same relationship, then you have found the right page. I will help you get to the core of these issues, and find yourself content with your personal relationships.

I believe the most important part of the healing process is the therapeutic alliance between a client and their therapist. I work at your own pace to build trust and a feeling of safety in the therapy room. I provide a space where you can voice and sift through intrusive thoughts and feelings that you may not feel able to process elsewhere. I primarily work with adult women, individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, preschool age children and couples.

I have found that most people possess the necessary tools to improve their quality of life and simply need someone else to highlight them. I have a warm, direct style and utilize humor, when appropriate, to explore challenges and collaborate on ways to live one’s most fulfilled life. I use an experiential and intuitive approach to help clients develop the best possible relationships with themselves and others.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
