I help individuals, couples, and families work through the places they feel stuck so they can achieve their own version of success. I meet people wherever they are empathically, respectfully, and without judgment. My specialties include Relationship and Family issues; Depression, Anxiety , Trauma, PTSD as well as Substance abuse. My work is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and the latest findings in neuroscience. After 15 years, I also find that a lot of insight and healing happens in the spaces where science, psychology, and spirituality rub up against each other.

I have experience working with adults, teens, and young adults who are going through life transitions, struggling with depression, self esteem, anxiety , relationship issues and more.
Starting therapy can be both exciting and relieving, as well as initially daunting. Many people avoid therapy for fear of judgement, not thinking their issues are "that bad", or are afraid of facing themselves. When there's avoidance or lack of help, these problems tend to keep getting worse. I believe that therapy is all about creating a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space where we can work together to help you shift your mindset, make better choices, and improve aspects of your life that may not be working. My approach is all about working as a team to help you reach your personal goals.

I want to support you in building your self-confidence, recognizing your strengths, and developing healthier coping strategies so you can work through your trauma, grief, anxiety , and life transitions at your own pace.
I think it’s safe to say life is hard. There is so much going on in the world and in our lives that it can be hard to navigate everything that is placed in front of us. We all go through struggles and challenges and it’s okay to seek professional help for them. Growing up as a Chinese American, I recognize the complexities of family and social dynamics and how it can have an immense impact in who we become and how we view ourselves.

We find ourselves in exciting times where therapy and mental health are being openly discussed. However while these conversations have started, there is still a long way to go towards understanding. In these fast-paced times, we’ve become so used to finding quick and easy answers. Anxiety . Depression. Symptoms aren’t always enemies to be vanquished as quickly as possible. They can be messengers alerting us of deeper issues. They bare a warning that our outlook or relationships are unhealthy and in need of attention. If we can look inward and treat the essence of this problem, the symptoms will no longer have a reason to be.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
