I use a narrative therapy approach to help you reshape stories about yourself and your relationships, while integrating CBT, DBT, EFT, Gottman Method, and somatic techniques.
Many of my clients come to therapy carrying the weight of trauma, grief, or the unique stressors that come with military life, deployment, reintegration, and the ongoing effort to stay connected in the face of challenge. Whether you are navigating PTSD, struggling with intimacy, or working through family transitions, your goal is often the same: to find stability, resilience, and deeper connection with yourself and those you love.

I am trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities such as DBT, CBT, and ACT, as well as several types of trauma treatment and I utilize all of these to create an individual approach for each client.
My interest in the practice of psychotherapy is founded in the idea that all people want to be the best version of themselves and are capable of achieving that-- whatever that may mean to them. I want to help individuals cope with the challenges that can interfere with achieving their goals and what they want for their lives. All humans struggle and fall short of their own ideals at times, including myself, and I believe learning to successfully cope through these moments of difficulty can lead to a more fulfilling life and an ability to thrive more completely during moments of success.

When you were young, you imagined things would all come together when you became an adult. Others may see you as successful, composed, or upbeat, but they don’t see the whole picture. They know nothing about your anxious thoughts, about your past and the way it still affects you, or your insecurities. Some days it can be hard to look in the mirror after comparing yourself to those on social media, siblings and friends, or to your own high standards. Words like "stay positive" and "be grateful" can leave you feeling unheard or misunderstood. It feels impossible to be excited or motivated for life when you feel this way.

Originally having grown up in Japan and then moving to the U.S over twenty years ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to work in the mental health field as mental health is a highly stigmatized subject in Japan. I now work with individuals who struggle with cultural adjustments, their family systems, and most recently, anxiety and OCD. I understand how culture and mental health are closely intertwined and aim to assist clients to make peace with them.

I work best with anyone who is struggling to understand what the world is all about, why are we(me as a human/person) here on the earth, what is our/my purpose, how can I be happy and fulfilled, what are people all about, etc. The most difficult thing we will all be faced with is how do we deal/cope with people!

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
