As a sex therapist I practice inclusivity and work with all communities, including but not limited to cis, transgender , LGBTQ+, and poly communities.
If you are seeking counseling, you have come to the right place. In my counseling practice I will help guide you through sessions, and help you craft a life for yourself that brings you joy. In existential counseling, we will focus on getting the most out of this life no matter what challenges we face. I believe you can show up for yourself through therapy. As we gain knowledge, we are free and responsible to direct our narrative by making changes in our lives to better fit our needs and lifestyles. My specialty is in sexual health, however I offer psychotherapy for both non-sexual and sexual issues.

A seasoned psychotherapist with a strong appreciation for how difficult change can be, my approach is straightforward, compassionate, tinged with humor, and terribly reliant upon our ability to form a collaborative partnership. If you are reading this then something is not working for you, some aspect of your life is disappointing or dissatisfying and you have likely exhausted your own efforts to resolve things independently. You may feel baffled as to why the same patterns of interpersonal problems are happening again.

Most of us want to solve our own problems, but at times getting help is the wisest move, speeding progress and often bringing desired changes we didn't realize were possible. I help you connect with your inner wisdom and resolve problems while adding skills that bring resilience and strength. My approach is compassionate, non-judging, supportive, and tailored to your uniqueness. Therapy helps with most life challenges because it's really about personal growth: getting better at handling what life brings, and helping the wise, powerful, authentic you come to the forefront, take charge, find meaning, and engage fully.

I have 3 specialties: sex therapy, sleep treatment, and child/teen mental health. Mind & Body Garden Psychology is a Mandarin-English multicultural group practice with 20+ bilingual therapists, psychiatrists, etc. We provide psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment services, and see our roles as gardeners. When people come to us seeking support, they may have too many branches of mental blocks and bushes of stress in their lives. What we can do is to help people be more aware of the branches and bushes that impact their quality of life, and then assist them to trim these parts, cope with stress, and live happily.

I am a licensed psychologist with vast experience in diagnostic evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults. I hold faculty appointments at Stanford's Department of Psychiatry and at the Palo Alto University/PGSP-Stanford Consortium where I teach adult and child assessment to doctoral students. In my practice, I offer a variety of evaluation options to help you understand your, or your loved ones, strengths and challenges as well as their root cause. The purpose of these evaluations is two-fold: to present a "full picture" understanding of a person, and to provide individualized strength-based recommendations.

During the over 20 years I have been in practice I have witnessed how profoundly helpful it is for a person to be listened to with care and attention. My commitment to you is to create a setting that helps you share yourself with someone who initially you don't know - but will come to know. I want to help you feel safe and comfortable enough to speak about your concerns. In addition, we will address your issues with the objective of getting to the source of the problem so that you can feel more long-term relief.

You want your relationship to help you through the COVID-19 crisis, not to make it worse. You wish being cooped up for several weeks could be an opportunity for sexual intimacy instead of rehashing old resentments. You wish you and your partner could take this time to finally heal the pain and turn your relationship around. Your relationship used to be a source of strength and resilience. You need help to bring that quality back, now more than ever. You are willing to do your part to make it better, you know you haven’t been perfect either. You need an experienced therapist to help you turn this crisis into an opportunity.

You are at a point in your life where you're feeling off, feeling bad. Something isn't quite right. You might be depressed, lonely, unhappy about your relationships, dissatisfied about a job, or generally nervous and stressed. You may have been suffering for quite a while or maybe these feelings are newer, perhaps due to a recent event. Whatever the reason, you are here now and seeking help. Reaching out is difficult to do and can be frightening. It may feel like a risk to place your trust in someone.

You may be feeling stuck, adjusting to a transition or loss, feeling depressed or anxious, questioning who you are in this world, frustrated with relationships, or seeking personal growth. As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, my ideal clients are individuals motivated to engage in self-reflection to better understand themselves--both in their struggles and in their resilience. Therapy can be hard work and has the potential to be rewarding. I support that journey with my clients. I have extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ and multiculturally diverse/intersectional clients.

I am a psychotherapist providing individual therapy services to adults and adolescents. Many of those that I work with have experienced deep pain in their lives, and our work together involves exploring that pain and its impact. We'll take time to move at the pace that feels comfortable-this is not a space we need to rush. It's a space to be, to feel, regardless of what that feeling is.

Working with individuals who feel they need some extra support to tackle challenges that life throws at them is my passion. I believe that through the relationship and work between client and therapist, behaviors can be adjusted, relationships can be mended, unhealthy coping skills can be identified and reworked, and healthy change can occur. I create a safe, comfortable therapeutic environment where individuals can succeed in making positive growth in their lives. Taking a straightforward, honest, relaxed and empathetic approach to supporting clients frees clients to open up, discover their strengths and make the most of therapy.

In many ways good psychotherapy is like a successful remodel, frequently resulting in a stronger and more spacious sense of one's self, lovely new rooms, remarkable views and better access to the world outside (and in). The journey of self-discovery takes courage, but increasing one's awareness of old limitations and obstacles, and developing the ability to gently and carefully dismantle and rebuild where necessary is incredibly rewarding -- often beyond what we can imagine. I believe that it's a collaborative journey on which we embark, moving together towards creating a more fulfilling and rewarding life for you.

How can I find a therapist in Los Altos?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
