I welcome people from all backgrounds, especially multiracial/POC, LGBTQIA , non-binary, or neurodivergent (ADHD/autistic).
We face so much pressure from work or family. Sometimes we have to hide parts of ourselves to fit in. And we lose touch with who we are and what makes us feel alive. Are you feeling lonely or not good enough, and longing to feel accepted for who you are? Together, we can explore what matters most to you, so you can create more of the life you want. I can support you in transforming patterns that lead to feeling stuck or overwhelmed. I offer Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and Brainspotting, which are all proven approaches for healing trauma and reducing anxiety and depression.

I work with adolescents and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, LGBTQ + concerns, disassociation and trauma, and with couples and families facing conflicted relationships.
Our experiences form an unconscious ‘blueprint’, which shapes our beliefs and aspirations, but also the fears and challenges we face. Gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and the patterns that run your life allows you the freedom to make new choices and respond differently, transforming your relationships with yourself and others. In our work together, I will support you on your journey towards self-awareness that can lead to a profound change. My therapeutic approach is warm, direct and authentic. I believe feeling safe, accepted and heard are all critical elements for therapy to succeed.

In addition to private practice, I currently serve as clinical faculty at Stanford, working in the Stanford Psychiatry Comprehensive DBT Program and the THRIVE clinic where I work with LGBTQ + individuals.
Finding the right therapist can be a difficult task. I hope to make that easier by telling you about myself and my approach. I received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology, a branch of psychology that takes into account the role of various cultural and environmental factors that shape each of us. This means that my approach to therapy is individualized and integrates information about your unique circumstances with my training in several different evidence-based treatments. My goal is to provide a safe environment where you can learn new techniques to cope with stress, build a life you value, and process difficult emotions.

I specialize in working with members of the LGBTQIA community.
Throughout our lives, we all have experienced feelings of depression, anxiety, and anger. These emotions leave you feeling insecure, shameful, lonely, unworthy and stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior. Trauma can have negative emotional and physical effects and can lead to family/relationship issues. I specialize in solution-focused brief therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and CBT. These approaches allow me to work with the client to decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression and other health/behavioral issues.

Do you experience low desire, lack sexual confidence to communicate regarding need, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction? Wanting to reclaim fun, intimate sex life following transitions such as children, work changes, medical issues or trauma. Self-critical, worried all the time. If these words (or others) describe you, let's talk. Do you say hurtful things to yourself you would never say to someone else? I can help provide the safe space and direction including evidenced based practice of ACT as well as self compassion. I also work with folx on the LGBTQ + spectrum to support your wellness as well as identity exploration.

Are you suffering and struggling in the living nightmare of an anxiety problem? Perhaps you are avoiding people, places or activities because of fear, panic or obsessive worrying. Maybe you have been suffering from a lack of sleep and feeling stressed and tired most of the time. Sleep medications and advice from friends or the internet might just make the problems worse. Maybe you're stuck in the never-ending rut of a bad habit or addiction that you can't seem to stop turning to for relief from your problems. Maybe you're unsatisfied in your relationships, overwhelmed by conflicts and a lack of closeness with people you care about.

Here we go again, another day of feeling on edge, tense in your stomach or body with uncomfortable feelings and intrusive, racing thoughts that feel like they have hijacked your brain and there is no way to make it stop or escape it! You are exhausted by the anxiety or depression, triggered and angry; you feel irritable, startle easily with noises, you feel short-tempered. You can’t seem to turn off worries, overthinking. You're always expecting something horrible to happen or waiting for “the shoe to drop”. You feel like you are at war with an invisible enemy. You are tired of watching life go by while you are missing out.

I work with men and women who are seemingly successful and happy but deep down inside feel lost, alone, even if they are in a relationship, and struggle to be present in life or often feel like they don't belong. I treat anxiety and depression through examining unconscious cognitive distortions and repetitive coping mechanisms as well as deep-rooted inner conflicts, insecurity, guilt, shame, family of origin and childhood trauma that manifest in perpetuating self-doubt, career dissatisfactions, and relationship/intimacy difficulties. Clients with prior therapy experiences often report making progress in our initial work together.

During the over 20 years I have been in practice I have witnessed how profoundly helpful it is for a person to be listened to with care and attention. My commitment to you is to create a setting that helps you share yourself with someone who initially you don't know - but will come to know. I want to help you feel safe and comfortable enough to speak about your concerns. In addition, we will address your issues with the objective of getting to the source of the problem so that you can feel more long-term relief.

I am a psychotherapist providing individual therapy services to adults and adolescents. Many of those that I work with have experienced deep pain in their lives, and our work together involves exploring that pain and its impact. We'll take time to move at the pace that feels comfortable-this is not a space we need to rush. It's a space to be, to feel, regardless of what that feeling is.

How can I find a therapist in Los Altos?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
