Looking for a psychologist is difficult. It is important to find someone who is a close match with your needs. I approach therapy with an active style, providing direct feedback in a supportive manner. For more than twenty years, I have been successfully helping individuals and
couples
through Emotionally Focused Therapy, find greater enjoyment in life. For therapy to work, I believe that the therapist needs to care about, and feel connected to, the individuals he or she works with. Psychotherapy is not just a job; helping people get better and live their life in a fuller happier way is something I strive for.

The issues show up as affairs, career confusion, patterns of bad relationships, loss of emotional connection with their
partner
, substance abuse, loss of passion or engagement.
I help people through life challenges to find deeper understanding, more effective coping skills, and more fulfilling relationships. I work from a place of empathy, connection and understanding. To create meaningful change, we explore problematic patterns of behavior and relating in order to find the underlying feelings and unmet needs. Whether your "if only" is your
relationship
, finances, career, kids, health or past hurts EMDR undoes the frozen negative beliefs in a powerful way that is different than talk therapy & often expedites your results.
You know how most smart, accomplished professionals have a lot going right in their lives but there is this one "if only" part of their lives that keeps them up at night. They are feeling worried, frustrated & anxious. And they are such wonderful people that you just wish they could have what they want. Maybe this feels familiar & you can relate to wanting something to be different so badly. But for some reason it just doesn't seem to change. This is when we feel disconnected from our most powerful, carefree selves & we're not sure how to find relief.

Is your marriage or partnership falling apart because you hope the other person will change? I help
couples
to identify the dynamics that prevent them from enjoying a healthy
relationship
; to examine their roles, and to take responsibility for getting needs met.
I believe counseling is about finding meaning and purpose in our lives; about experiencing a deep level of self-trust; and about healing broken relationships. I use a solution focused approach inviting you to view your problems from a different angle. We'll focus on what things you can control and how to let go of circumstances beyond your control. I invite you to identify the sources of internal dialogue that generate self-doubt, anxiety and depression. Each week you will leave with small assignments designed to increase your self-awareness and self-confidence.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
