Many people seek therapy when their coping skills no longer work or when relational issues cause continual heartache. Coming from past negative childhood experiences, I became a therapist to help individuals in their journey of discovering inner courage, strength and awareness of who they were created to be. My approach is Humanistic/Experiential while integrating Attachment Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral therapies. I offer a client centered, empathetic, safe, non-judgmental environment working towards a greater sense of wholeness and inner freedom, offering hope and coping skills.

Life presents obstacles, expected and unexpected. These experiences can be tough, especially if you feel there isn't someone you can share with. Even if we have a solid support network, we can face stigma and personal barriers that prevent us from opening up. Therapy can create a safe space to address internal or external conflict, seek personal growth, and restore balance in our lives. I love working with teens, adults, and senior adults. I am most effective with clients presenting with depression & anxiety, grief, life transitions, and family/relational conflict by prioritizing stabilization, managing symptoms, and building hope.

We all have hardship and emotional distress. In such times, it can be difficult to go through it alone. Facing these challenges with someone who guides and supports in a thoughtful way, can help to find deeper understanding. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process. Once a safe environment is provided, people find strength to realize their possibilities and discover their own solutions. One of the important goals of therapy is to activate your capacity for healing from within.

A few years ago I read a joke: "Fish don't know they're in the water". The scenario is that Fish Number One asks Fish Number Two, "How's the water?" Fish Number Two responds, "What the hell is water?". The fish who is "in" the situation (hence the water) does not even realize its surrounding. Second what surrounds you is only normal because it's what you know. I got another one that I recently came across: "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." This references to dream analysis but it basically mean that our preconceptions can dramatically alter the way we perceive the world. (Quote is by writer Anais Nin).

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
