I also focus on attuning to
spirituality
, aligning clients with a life that their soul yearns for.
As a second-generation Taiwanese-American, I understand firsthand the impact of intergenerational trauma and its effect on our mental health and quality of life. When we have endured difficult and challenging experiences, it is natural for our minds to filter and translate these experiences into protective strategies that we believe are providing us safety. However, traumatic experiences often rewire our brains in ways that keep us trapped in reactivity, concerned about the past or worried about the future. I am here to help you return to the here and now.

We integrate Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Culture, Personal Beliefs/
Spirituality
, & Therapeutic Education about the complex connection between what one eats (Nutrition) & their Mental Health (Mind).
How hard is it for you to create balance and focus in a world full of distractions, dishonesty, & dis-ease? And if what I call the "detrimental D's" as stated above contributes to how you act/think/feel, then who or what is really controlling your life & wellbeing? Let me guess: social media, unaddressed trauma, grief & loss, emotional dysregulation, unhealthy boundaries, passiveness, impulsivity, mood or eating disorders, chronic fatigue, aches/pain, anxiety, depression, digestive discomfort, pH imbalances, etc. Talk therapy alone may be unsuccessful or even unappealing, are you interested in exploring something more effective?

I specialize in working with chronic pain, chronic medical, and
spirituality
.
I work well with individuals who are seeking to learn more holistic ways to address their emotional and relational challenges whether they be family of origin issues, trauma, the challenges of parenting a child with special needs, chronic illness, anxiety, or depression. My general frame work is that you cannot separate the body from the mind nor can you separate a person from their life time of experiences, therefore working with all of these systems is a highly effective way to improve happiness, decrease anxiety and stress, and increase coping skills to manage life with more ease and improved relationships.

I am skilled in helping people work though issues of intergenerational trauma, family and intimate relationships, difficulty managing cultural values, racial and/or ethnic identity,
spirituality
, and challenges with identity.
Context plays an important role in every individual's life. Together we will take time to learn about your past experiences, worldview, past relationships, demographics, and history because these factors inform and impact your current life situation and presenting problems. The symptoms of the pain we've experienced can become overwhelming and disruptive. As your therapist, I will provide a safe and comfortable space where we can explore and manage your symptoms, while also be curious, reflective, and learn how to navigate through your life in a way that feels most true and genuine for you.

spirituality
as a significant contributor to lasting healing and I am profoundly inspired by the spiritual work I believe underlies so much of the therapeutic relationship. Everyone experiences some form of incongruence in life. However, when one's life gets disrupted and overwhelmed by conflict, anxiety, trauma, loss, or stress of everyday life, it causes psychological and emotional distress and loss of insight that constrains growth and creativity. Psychotherapy offers a helping relationship that is warm and empathic, where one feels safe and fully received to explore and reflect on incongruences with fresh perspectives and insights. Psychotherapy provides a climate for the individuals to emerge as someone who can fully live and trust one's experience as satisfying in each circumstance.

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
