Whether you desire to break free from unhealthy or destructive beliefs systems or habits, a traumatic past, anxiety , depression, challenging relationships, unhealthy work environments, or any other human problem...the change, growth and understanding you desire is possible. As a therapist with much experience in working with individuals, couples and families I can help you on your journey to creating the self, relationship, or family you've so desperately longed to have. The truth is that change takes work and guided structure to get it right. It takes being courageous enough to admit you've thought about this for far too long.

My approach is based on treating the person as a whole being. I believe that learning to integrate how we live is essential to heal, change and grow. Practically speaking, this means guiding heart, mind and body to work together, rather than being controlled by our fears or judgements. My initial goal is to assist each person to find effective ways to relieve symptoms, then, if they're willing and desire it, to explore ways to move beyond symptoms, learn how to live increasingly in the present, and create deeper and more enduring happiness and acceptance of self and others.

Our experiences include working with people to explore self-doubt, fear of failure and the unknown, social rejection, anxiety , depression, relationships, dating/marital related issues, perfectionism, stress, work/life balance, trauma, and overall well-being.
Life can be overwhelming and sometimes we just want to be understood while also developing the tools to cope with and overcome personal challenges. Often we search for answers to help us understand more about our struggles, but some conclusions may be inhibiting our growth more than empowering the strengths within. Many of us spend time comparing our lives to others, leading to more questions about who we are and why we can't seem to manage. While therapy is a place to explore those questions, it is also a space free of judgment that enables you to better clarify the barriers keeping you from feeling your best self.

I have extensive experience in the treatment of Depression, Anxiety , Panic disorders, and Relationship Issues. My approach to a person's problems involves the entire person. I have been trained extensively in the Neurobiological approach to treatment, which is often referred to as the Mind-Body connection. Having problematic physical symptoms as a result of being depressed and/or anxious is becoming more common and is very stressful. Our immune system, our ability to ward off disease can be greatly affected by our emotions. Depression, Anxiety / Panic , as well as the Stress caused by physical symptoms are very debilitating.

Making a decision to go to therapy could be anxiety provoking but it could also help you to get unstuck from your current situation. Whether you suffer from depression, anxiety , a past trauma or emotion dysregulation, there are evidenced based practices (EBPs) that help with these conditions. In therapy, unhelpful thoughts and behaviors can be discussed, at your pace, in order to reduce emotional suffering. Therapy could assist you to start engaging in behaviors that are consistent with values that pertain to who and what you care about the most.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
