Do you want your child to thrive with more confidence, harmony and self awareness so they can live life and express themselves in an empowering way? I am a compassionate, creative and intuitive therapist here to illuminate your pain and transmute it into purpose and inner power. I also work with couples using the Gottman method. I enjoy working with young adult and
adolescent
clients and the age-specific issues that these groups commonly experience. It's so difficult to be at an age where you're expected to act like an adult but are still treated like a child - this experience can be confusing and breed feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. I work with my clients to help normalize these feelings and experiences as well as help them make sense of things in the world and within themselves through the transition from adolescence into adulthood.

We are a group of therapists who provide individual, family, couples, child and
adolescent
therapy.
Money, vacations and good food can make us happy, but how long does this feeling last? Sustainable happiness comes from within, unobstructed by past injuries and external influences. When we operate disconnected from our inner wellbeing, we feel lost, unsatisfied, depressed, anxious...the list goes on. As your therapist, our purpose is to nurture and witness your journey back to your true essence and to facilitate a process that will lead you to a life of wellness and authenticity.

When helping young women and
teen
girls recover from trauma, I have experience using art as a means to help them access what words cannot.
People are always saying that you seem to be doing ok but they have no idea how much you struggle! Ever since the terrible thing happened you have been distracted, irritable, having nightmares, and you cry at pretty much anything. You are the friend who will always be there for others, but often feel like you are losing yourself in the process. You just want to laugh more, have good relationships, get your grades up or get better at your job. You have hope that you can feel better, but right now you feel stuck because you really don’t know how.

Whether you are a
teenager
or an adult, existential moments present themselves. Sometimes it takes the help of someone compassionate, yet straightforward, who is outside of the problem to help you find solutions. There is not always a clear cut answer to life's complex problems, but together we can prioritize and sort them out in order to achieve our goals. I work with both adolescents and adults in areas such as: trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse.

Your
teen
or child is struggling with unwanted and intrusive thoughts, which create anxiety. There are strong urges to do something to get immediate relief, whether it be avoidance, a ritual, or a physical or mental action. They feel better in the moment, but it’s only temporary relief. This OCD cycle quickly returns and becomes a vicious cycle day after day and they are mentally and physically exhausted. It leaves this uncomfortable feeling of distress. OCD takes up up time, energy and space in their mind which makes it difficult to live in the present moment. You just crave long-term relief for your child.

When helping
teen
and young women from communities of color, I do so with empathy because I'm also a woman of color who has sat on the other side of the couch.
Despite “having it all together,” life is hard. Living in a state of worry can make it difficult to catch your breath and enjoy life. It can be overwhelming to manage school, work, relationships and everyday responsibilities while feeling stressed. You're someone that wants to stop overthinking and you crave relief. You're hoping that one day you’ll be able to overcome the worries of everyday life and live fully in the present.

I love helping clients change the stories they tell themselves. It's powerful! And nothing is more powerful than actual proof. Sometimes it can look like, I’m stuck, I’m stuck, I’m stuck, and then a significant leap forward. A person suffering from anxiety and/or depression might be having a heck of a time just getting out of the house. Whether you’re a couple who's caught in a negative cycle and can see no way out, a
teen
who is struggling to develop their identity, or the creative individual who is certain the well of inspiration has dried up, no problem is hopeless and no suffering too great to be lessened.

Support Groups are unique, because unlike other groups that labels groups "Anger Management", "Self-Esteem", etc.
I'd like to help... Your Relationship Within Yourself and With Others. I believe your mind and body work together; that you can create your own happiness by how you choose to respond to your feelings, and act towards yourselves and the world around you. If you are ready for change in your life, or would like to explore new ways of thinking and living your life, my Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution Focused, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy approaches may help. My goals for you are to receive new insight/tools that you can use to help create a better, happier life.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
