As a psychotherapist in clinical practice since 1982, I have worked with children, adults, couples and families.
In my early twenties, I worked as a volunteer counselor in a Free Clinic. There I learned that when someone has suffered emotional trauma they need gentleness and kindness before anything else. From those experiences and more I decided that my professional mission is to act as a change agent and a peacemaker. To accomplish this I have extensive training in treating anxiety, trauma, depression, post traumatic stress, and addictions. I also taught at the college level. For more than 25 years I have studied and taken specialized training in the intersection of psychology, spirituality and holistic approaches to mental health.

Whether you are struggling with a history of abuse, rejection, loss, chronic pain, low self esteem, or relationship issues, I am here to listen and support you.
I get it, you've tried to change on your own, you've read all the self help books, maybe you've even seen a therapist before; something just isn't working. Now you're ready to really do the work. Maybe you still feel stuck in feelings of shame, anxiety, depression or fear. Living like this can be incredibly draining. I understand that trauma leaves you feeling vulnerable and seeking therapy isn't for the faint of heart. This is why I create a collaborative and transparent environment throughout our work together.

First, we'll establish a trusting relationship , with parent involvement for at least the 1st session.
Your son is definitely going through something. You're worried about the pre-teen, teen, or young adult in your life. He seems down, depressed, discouraged, but then just tunes out the world with his screens. He's anxious, dealing with pressure, school, friends, & he needs to face his struggles. He won't open up much to you or other family members. He seems to be isolating more - you think he might have some addiction going on. He's not as interested in his usual activities. You're basically concerned about the direction of his life. What you really want is your kid to be happy, motivated, and moving in a good direction.

Most people who seek counseling do so because something in their life is not quite right. Maybe you have already identified what is off in your life – depression, anxiety, a toxic relationship , a past trauma, a painful life transition. Maybe you are the family member or friend that people generally rely on; you give to others freely but sometimes feel as though you are running on “low” and have few places or people to turn to for your own needs. Or perhaps you just know that something is off, that you could be happier or more fulfilled than you are currently.

I currently provide individual, family, group and couples therapy.
I have worked as a mental health practitioner for over 10 years. I began my career working with adolescents with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health needs in an inpatient treatment setting. I continued working with a variety of populations including homeless and at-risk families with children with mental health disorders. In 2013 I was an intern at the Orange County Health Care Agency's Anaheim clinic for the severely and persistently mentally ill, where I provided case management services, conducted crisis intervention services and behavioral health assessments both in the clinic and while in the field.

My practice is built to empower individuals, families and couples as they face the challenges of life and begin to construct a new, healthier way of being.
Thank you for taking the first step toward change in your life! Challenging habits can be very scary. It is possible you have been practicing these habits for so long you have forgotten where they began. Many people view their symptoms as their identity. My passion is to work with you to empower that part of you that is hoping for more from your life and relationships. Please know you are not alone in this journey. Our job together is to work to identify the core issues driving those symptoms and find healthier ways of living the life you want.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
