I offer your family and teen "coaching" without the stigma of therapy or the need to have long deep discussions.
TEENS - your happy outgoing child has been replaced by a secretive/withdrawn, irritable/defiant teenager , creating worry, anxiety, chaos. You find yourself reacting to your teen , rather than enjoying a happy family. You've tried everything - bribery, setting boundaries, making demands, hurling threats. It's only gotten worse. Worried over the cause of your teen 's change - addiction, (alcohol or drug abuse), ADD/ADHD, body image/self esteem issues (anorexia, bulimia, cutting, weight) bullying, maybe your pending divorce...anxiety, depression, school, suicide attempts, suicide of a friend or family member...

My first love is teens and young adults. I approach the younger audience with an easy and open manner creating a relatable and accepting atmosphere. As a result, young people gravitate to me as they sense I attune to their experience with genuine care. As a mother of three young adult women–as well as an uncanny memory of my own adolescent adventures–I understand this demographic, and the need for the confident guidance of a capable clinician to help support and empower them through this unique life stage.

CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS I believe therapy is a powerful tool for change and personal empowerment. It can be difficult to make the decision to seek support, but I believe starting therapy is a courageous act of self-compassion. I aim to provide a warm, genuine, and collaborative approach when working with clients. I strive to create a connection that allows clients to be themselves and feel safe to work through any obstacles in their path. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, I work with clients to build confidence and skills to navigate life stressors and to create a life they can’t wait to wake up to.

I help couples and individuals identify the heart of their relationship struggles. I have developed a giftedness in supporting people through their relationship questions, whether it's in the dating process or contemplating divorce. I support people through the hard questions about their relationships and provide the right questions and feedback to help people determine what is "theirs" (read, change-able), and what is not "theirs", and ways to effectively cope with what they can't change.

Many bright or gifted kids can do well in a good public or private school system. But some need more in order to stay engaged and challenged - and to be able to connect with others who share similar interests and traits. Others may have specific learning or processing problems that impede their ability to learn up to their potential. Many of these kids can be helped tremendously by proper evaluation and timely remediation.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
