Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists in Lafayette, CA
I use somatic therapy with an emphasis on internal family systems to support my clients while using a direct, hopeful, and grounded demeanor.
Trauma and other difficult experiences can impact the way we view our relationships, the world, and ourselves. I support clients in processing traumatic experiences, identifying triggers, and reclaiming their sense of safety and joy. I work with adults, couples/relationships, and families of all kinds. I welcome and affirm non-traditional family structures (donor, adoption, foster, blended families), members of LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent individuals, and people who have had negative experiences with therapy in the past.

We explore and map how you function using tools from EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, spirituality and more.
Our pursuit of a good life can be deeply affected by the current world situations. We may be struggling not only in our personal lives but also by difficult worldly events such as climate change, the economy, retirement, health care and many more. When the world doesn't feel safe, it's more difficult to tolerate the emotions, sensations, and thoughts arising inside of us, making us turn toward old coping mechanisms This will not heal us. We need to build the confidence to be with and understand our inner experiences no matter what! This is our pathway to truly heal and live a more peaceful and meaningful life in the world.

My work blends attachment and relational therapy with Internal Family Systems, narrative therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and emotion-focused therapy.
You may be carrying the weight of self-doubt, past trauma, or the pressure to be everything to everyone. Maybe you’re navigating complicated relationships, struggling with intimacy, or trying to balance work, family, and your own needs. Many of the clients I work with feel stuck in cycles of self-criticism, disconnection, or overwhelm, while others face depression, anxiety, substance use, or family conflict. Some are drawn to deeper work with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy or psychedelic integration, using these approaches to soften defenses, access insight, and open new pathways to healing and connection.

I am trained in EMDR and IFS, and use attachment-based and developmental frameworks to guide our work.
I believe in the intrinsic strength of all people and trust that our internal systems naturally lean towards healing. That said, sometimes our experiences, upbringings—even our biology or physical bodies—can feel like they are creating barriers to living the life we want. I will be a partner with you as you look at and acknowledge all parts of your story so that you get to decide the narrative that drives it. I am ready to help you tap in to your own wealth of knowledge, to leave behind the tools that no longer serve you, and to integrate new practices that will help you lead the life you want.

When it comes to my work, I stay rooted in 3 pillars: 1) Connection. Time and time again, research shows that our relationships are the most powerful element for success. How do you know if you are making a good connection with someone? For me, its when the people I'm working with leave our interactions feeling seen and heard in the entirety of their humanness (the good, the bad, and everything in between).

I work relationally and somatically through Internal Family Systems, eco-somatics, attachment, and liberation informed lenses.
Life is endlessly complex and challenging — full of obstacles, losses, changes, and nos that we wish were yeses. And yet, constraint—chosen or not—can guide us to our own inexhaustible creativity, our ability to craft the life we want to live within the life we are already living.
Both somatics and eco-therapy invite us into deeper relationship with the world, with ourselves, with our constraints and our creativity—where we can experience the life we're living, the body we're inhabiting, and the relationships we're in as singular, wild, precious, and ever-changing; where we can allow the fullness of ourselves to unfold.

I have completed level one Internal Family Systems Training.
I'm here to support you through times of change and uncertainty. That might look like changing patterns that no longer serve you. It may be supporting you through the change of becoming a parent. It may be supporting changes in identity or changes in relationships. Change comes with age. It comes with grief. It comes with joy and with heartbreak often at the same time. And it can be challenging to navigate but you don’t have to do it alone.

I provide compassionate therapy tailored to your particular needs. Together we would set goals and work to bring the needed changes into your life. I am not dedicated to a single particular theory or technique, but will use whatever works best for you. Often traditional talk therapy is most effective, but I have also successfully used cognitive/behavioral therapy, dream analysis, writing, art therapy, meditation, sand trays, group therapy, experiential therapy, and guided imagery. I also work to help you explore and strengthen your higher values and whatever you find most meaningful in your life.

Maybe you are often carrying a lot quietly, unsure how to ask for help or put your needs first. Do you want to understand why you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or like you’re “too much” or “not enough.” Your goal? To feel more like yourself again—to build stronger relationships, speak more honestly, and move through life with clarity, confidence, and ease.

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
