Kids don't always use words but behavior always has a message and may also be a form of SOS. I help children and teens feel better about themselves and improve their behavior at home or at school. I also help parents and families understand and deal with the mistaken goals of misbehavior. I believe there is always a reason, feeling or unmet need. Understanding and addressing the underlying message helps build bridges with kids and teens. I provide individual, parenting or family sessions that range from educational coaching and enrichment or addressing specific concerns.

I work with aduIts and couples. I specialize in helping you to improve your relationships if you have struggled with this throughout your live. Today, you may have challenging relationships with family members. Perhaps you avoid conflict because you get anxious and don’t know what to say when someone is angry with you. Emotionally, you may shut down, go numb or explode. You may fear that your partner will leave you or that you don’t need anyone. Maybe you don’t know who you are, or who you are meant to be, or you often have critical thoughts about yourself. Perhaps you suffer from ongoing anxiety or depression without a known cause.

Dr. Tucker specializes in comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for school-aged children, teens, and young adults that are personalized and focused on understanding the individual as a whole. In addition to identifying areas of challenge, Dr. Tucker highlights each person's strengths and uses these strengths to inform interventions. Her assessments yield an integrated picture of a child's cognitive, academic, and social-emotional development as well as specific recommendations for improving functioning in all three areas. A goal of the assessment process is for each family to emerge empowered and equipped to move forward.

I work with athletes, dancers and musicians of all levels, and business executives who are in transitions as a result of injuries, retirement, or the desire to make changes in direction with their sport, instrument or career; as well as often working with their family members. My other specialty is training clinicians to work with all types of eating disorders, and working directly with people who suffer from eating disorders.

I am proud to be a clinician practicing through TheraThrive where I offer a variety of services including individual (adult or child) and family therapy .
I specialize in working with ADHD, HSP, and ASD. Being in our bodies- and being in our world- can be very difficult. This is especially true when when you're a highly sensitive person. My typical client often hears "you're being too much" while also dreading the feeling of not "being enough". I'm here to take a deep dive into what's making you feel like "too much" and highlight the ways you are "just enough for the right people". Typically, my client's goals are to live more comfortably in their sensitive skin, find liberation from shame, and better manage depression and anxiety.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist my experience includes nearly a decade of working with dual diagnosis clients using evidence based practices.
My work is solutions oriented and focused on (1) individuals diagnosed with OCD/ADHD/Trichotillomania/Excoriation Disorder/Hoarding and other Neurodiverse conditions experiencing unhelpful thinking as a result of experiences struggling with symptoms such as executive functioning, sensory overload, etc. (2) families raising children with neurodivergent conditions needing support in resolving concerns and strengthening positive relationships at home, and (3) family therapy for adult children experiencing “failure to launch” and diminished autonomy from their parents who are motivated to achieve independence.

Although I work with a variety of clients, my primary speciality is children (and their parents) who struggle with behavioral and/or emotional problems, using playful and positive means to help them with anger management, expression of feelings, and relationships with friends and family . Parents often decide that working with me separately is the most beneficial approach. My clients come from diverse backgrounds. I am especially interested in the unique challenges so often found in blended families, divorced families, families of children who have special needs, and intercultural relationships.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
